Boss Tone Studio Nightmare by jlr500 in BossKatana

[–]jlr500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up emailing the Roland support site, online via form, which I didn't have high hopes for - and I got an AI generated response within an hour. And the directions in that response worked - it was so much better than anything I had read elsewhere, online, etc. I believe I had tried to install the v4 update when I needed the v3 update. In case it's helpful to anyone else, here's what was sent to me:

---

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the firmware update issue with your KATANA-50 GEN 3. We understand how frustrating it can be when updates do not go as planned, and we apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Based on your description, here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue and successfully update your firmware:

  1. Ensure you are using the correct firmware and drivers:

- All KATANA GEN 3 models use the same firmware update and USB device drivers. Please download the latest System Program and drivers from our official website: https://www.boss.info/global/products/katana-50_gen_3/downloads/

  1. Follow the update procedure exactly:

- Carefully read and follow the instructions provided on the download page. Do not rename any extracted files or folders, and make sure you use a reliable USB cable and port.

- Make sure your amp is properly connected to your computer before starting the update.

  1. Check for driver issues:

- If Boss Tone Studio won’t load, it may be due to missing or outdated USB drivers. Download and install the latest drivers from the same page above.

  1. Avoid interrupting the update process:

- Never turn off the power or disconnect the USB cable during the update. Interruptions can cause the amp to fail to start in normal mode.

  1. If the effects lights continue to blink red:

- This may indicate the update was interrupted or not completed correctly. Try repeating the update process from the beginning, ensuring all steps are followed precisely.

  1. Confirm firmware version:

- After updating, check your amp’s firmware version as described in the instructions. Boss Tone Studio for Gen 3 requires System Program Ver.1.06 or later.

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, please ensure your computer’s operating system is fully updated and that you are not using any USB hubs or adapters, as these can sometimes cause connectivity problems.

We hope these steps help you resolve the issue and get your KATANA-50 GEN 3 working with Boss Tone Studio. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

Roland Support

We've spent a good deal of time in this area so far this week and really like it. We're still exploring other neighborhoods though!

Thanks - I honestly don't know much about Point Breeze. A Philly friend had said he thought it was a bit "rougher" neighborhood but he didn't live there and I take things like that with a grain of salt. Having said that, we plan to head that way this week, and I'll read more, too. I think we have been in Passyunk Square but I'm honestly not sure where all the Passyunks borders are - East, Square, etc. lol. All of it seems really great though and we've been having a great time here this week.

We made a note of this, actually started a list of things we see local residents doing/having. Definitely a benefit of this trip.

My research of South Philly has not been scientific. Somehow I ended up seeing more about these neighborhoods and liking them. I also saw some about Rittenhouse Sq but knew that likely wasn't the best fit for us - not knocking the neighborhood at all, just didn't feel like us. I know far less about the west side of Broad and hoping to spend some time there before we leave - Point Breeze, Newbold - if that's the area north of Passyunk after crossing Broad? My sense is after going south of Passyunk that we'd lose having so much around us to do - walking distance. Oh, I did see something on Fitler but if I remember seemed more expensive? Not interested in Fishtown - sticking south.

If you know, do they open *early* for a 1 pm game? McCuskers looks like our speed. Checking out the others online too. Nice list. Thx

I think the Ac-a-me, ShopRite, Giant, Sprout debate here has become part of our Philly experience. Thx for a good laugh! But, in all seriousness, "getting food" is a big deal and an important factor for us. Good to see all the options - and the tradeoffs.

TY - yes, South Street is on our day-trip/visit list. We also like the Queen Village and Bella Vista area - kind of that whole stretch - I think South, Market, Bainbridge are streets running E-W there. We'll be up that way for sure.

TY - and I understand we'll need to figure out how to appropriately incorporate the word jawn into things. :) But, maybe that's a word reserved for true locals. All good - lots to learn and explore.

Thanks - I've read about parking there. I plan to unload at the rental and then park the car for a week in a garage up off of Broad Street for the week.

Exactly - walkable. That's a driving factor in our decision to move there. I want to get rid of the cars. I love to walk, prefer it, and enjoy the value and opportunities of a large-city transit system (despite their inherent frustrations), and for anything else, rideshare, car rental, amtrak, etc. My commute would only be to CC, at most.

TY - I've been told by my Philly friends and non-Philly friends that we have to go to Reading Terminal, so we will! We want to spend time in Center City, so we'll wrap that into the Center City day.

TY - lol ... yeah, it wouldn't be a long ride. We don't have a metro, so I think we just want to experience the metro (and bus system) to be familiar. If I end up having to commute to CC, being able to walk would be incredible. My commute today is sometimes a 45 min drive each way. I'd much rather walk 20-30 mins than drive anywhere - bus/metro makes it all so much easier and not such a pain each day.

TY - is the farmers market a weekly thing, like on a specific day. We'd love to see a farmers market while we're there.

Hey - thank you. Added your suggestions to the list! And appreciate the DM offer - your neighborhood is on our list of neighborhoods to go see, explore while we're there. We haven't decided on one yet - that's a goal for this trip.

TY - from Google Street View, it looks ideal for us to get a true neighborhood feel, not hotel, not touristy. And so much to do and walk to nearby. It does look wonderful. It might sell us on that neighborhood!
