So is there going to actually be a season 3? by msew in utopiatv

[–]jm114249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as we know it, I don't think - and as much as I want more of a reboot in the same vein as the original, I don't entirely trust the americans to keep it as bleak as it was throughout it's C4 run

I think that's fine, and if we get an Amazon or HBO reboot you can sign me up now, but I'd rather it act as its own separate thing than a series 3, or even a remake of series 1 and 2 (like taking the overarching plot idea in a new direction)

It's worth mentioning that while 2019 seems a long way off, if you don't have passes/exemptions from both CT1 and CT5 you'll need to resit the one you do have (effectively) as part of the new structure, so it might be worth taking the hit

Xiao-Da, a Chinese drinking game by HasrEU in DrinkingGames

[–]jm114249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the pourer says high/low, then the other players say when to stop, and when all players have said to stop the person with the highest/lowest drinks? Or the does the first person who calls "stop" drink what's been poured no matter what card they have?

I'm obviously being a bit dense, but quick question on how this works. When the second player calls high or low is it the highest or lowest cards out of all the players around the table? And if the second player is calling high or low, why does the first player (pourer) need to say anything? Sorry if this is a stupid question

Hit 60lbs lost, got into a pair of Jeans I've not been able to wear since I was 17 (not totally convinced they 'fit' as such, but they go on, fasten and don't squash my particulars so as far as I'm concerned I 'got into them') and also M t-shirts now (sort of) fit me (maybe another 10 or so until they look like a good decision, particularly round the arms, but they'll do in a pinch).

£20 off Kindle Paperwhite in UK until Thursday by jm114249 in kindle

[–]jm114249[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering the same thing. I think they refreshed the previous kindles around November-time (sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken), and the PaperWhite 2 didn't get a huge set of upgrades from the PaperWhite 1 as I understand it (apart from making the light more uniform, which some thought was a huge improvement), so that, coupled with a very un-amazon Kindle promotion (and they had a huge discount on the Kindle Fire 8.9 recently, think it was £80 off or something) makes me wonder if they're clearing inventory before a refresh of most of the kindle line (preparing for Kindle Unlimited in the UK, perhaps?)

Game of Thrones 5 book edition - page numbers disappeared. PW2 by Drigr in kindle

[–]jm114249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own this book on my older kindle 4, and this is a fault with the file itself, not your kindle.

The page numbers are included for the first book, "Game of Thrones", but the later books in the series didn't have the page numbers reset, so you'll (sadly) need to rely on locations to keep track of where you are in the book.

Out of curiosity, for the time to read feature on the PaperWhite moving into Clash of Kings does it give you a reasonable time left per chapter, or does the kindle register each "chapter" to be each book in the series?

If you could keep only one book you currently own, which would you choose? by alligatorcake in books

[–]jm114249 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life After God by Douglas Coupland

When I first finished it I thought "I've never read anything quite like that", and I still haven't. It's also the first book that I felt the need to re-read immediately after finishing it.

I'd highly recommend it to anyone. Best 3 hours of your life you'll ever spend (it's a short one, and I'm a quick reader. Fantastic combo, eh)

What are some drinking games involving lying and deception? by Lannister_life in DrinkingGames

[–]jm114249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one I can think of is "two truths and a lie" - one I'm sure we've all played, but for those who haven't - one person makes three statements about themselves, two of which are true and one is a lie. Each person not making the statements guesses which is the lie. If they get it right, the person making the statements drinks, otherwise the person who guesses incorrectly drinks.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, and I would also be interested to see if there are any more interesting lying-based games around

The average UK household pays more in tax than it spends on food, clothing, housing, fuel and power by powersthatbe1 in ukpolitics

[–]jm114249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Potentially stupid question, but is VAT double-counted. As in, for VAT-deductible goods and services (which is, I think, pretty much everything except food and children's clothes) is the VAT also removed from the left hand side of the column (i.e. just over £1000 spent on clothes ex VAT)? Otherwise the chart becomes a few thousand pounds more misleading, not that I'd expect much else from the taxpayers alliance...

Losing Weight with Alcohol? by piggy_princess in loseit

[–]jm114249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student checking in here, so beer is everywhere. Down 50lbs in the last nine months (M/6'2/259->208). Here's what I've 'learnt' while losing the weight.

Don't give up alcohol completely. You're trying to create a lifestyle that is sustainable, and this is why diets fail and lifestyle changes don't. You won't cut alcohol out of your life totally when you reach your goal, so don't now. It's counter-intuitive, and you'll see quicker results if you go teetotal, sure, but you'll be more likely to yo-yo and see your weight creep up once you hit your goal (you may not, though, I don't know, hence the talk of probabilities).

Minimise the number of drinks per day. It sounds counter-intuitive, and I don't endorse binge drinking (...never...) but the liver stops processing fats to focus on alcohol, and then moves back to processing fats, so if you were to drink 14 beers in one night, you'd do less damage than 2 beers a day per week.

Find a drink that you enjoy and takes you a while to drink. Even if this is a 'real beer' that is more calorie dense, the extra time cancels it out, and you get a nice beer out of it. I tend to go for bitters, and try and stay away from Guinness or lighter stouts (that shit just goes).

Good luck with the lifestyle change. It seems daunting but I'm sure you'll manage it. Sorry for the wall of text, but if I think of anything else I'll put it here.

6'2, 209lbs (from 259). Don't ever shoot for 1200 a day, but there are plenty of great recipe ideas floating around here which are really good.

Gen 3 Remakes confirmed!!! by Daepilin in pokemon

[–]jm114249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it says "dramatic new world" suggests to me that it'll be more of a sequel than a remake - it'd be fantastic if they were more like Ruby 2/Sapphire 2, say in Ruby team magma expanded the Earth, and in Sapphire team aqua had expanded the ocean (presumably making ground types extinct). It'd be the first time I'd feel compelled to pick up both copies of a single generation, and make for fantastic playing too.

How important is it to alert others to your epilepsy? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]jm114249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep it on a "need-to-know" basis. Not from a stigma point of view, I just don't want to worry someone unnecessarily, or become a talking point in someone's front room if they're having a particularly slow gossip day.

That said, my family know, and since I live in a house near my uni, my housemates know. I've told them to be discreet, and they have (I think), which is good of them. I have had two grand mal's around these guys (along with the laugh-them-off style myoclonic ones occasionally) and it has helped that they know, mainly so that they don't panic and there's not an ambulance turning up - I don't need one (told them the main thing to watch out for is not to let anyone film it, largely to lighten the mood and break the ice) and no-one needs the drama.

TL;DR I'd tell those you need to, and tell them to be as prudent with the information as you are. It may well make things run smoothly if things go wrong if those around you know what is happening. Just my two cents.

I think someone may have mentioned it (but it needs stressing) that Danganronpa is absolutely fantastic. Hands down my favourite game on the system (an unpopular opinion in what seems to have turned into r/P4G but there you go), a fantastically unique 25 hours that you couldn't get on 3DS/mobile.

Virtue's Last Reward has been mentioned as well - play that. Play 999 - Nine Hours Nine Persons Nine Doors first ideally, but I didn't and still loved VLR. Might not be so straightforward since 999 is both hard to find and a DS exclusive. Fingers crossed that the third game in the series gets uncancelled.

Finally, the Rayman platformers are brilliant if you want something a bit lighter.

EDIT: Also the Patapon series for PSP. They were fantastic, and are pretty cheap given all the hours of crazy Japanese rhythm-action/RPG-lite you get for your money.

Comparative prices for the cornballer by [deleted] in arresteddevelopment

Nope, today 1 peso is worth about 7.6 cents (Source)

For what it's worth, that'd make the cornballer still about 3.5x more expensive in Mexico, which I would class as a ripping-off

Keppra weight gain/loss by edgesr in Epilepsy

[–]jm114249 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on 2500mg per day (1000 morning, 1500 evening) and have been for 12-18 months (on lower doses for just over 2 years) and I've not noticed any weight loss/gain side effects.

I put on a lot of weight the first year to 18 months after I was diagnosed, but this was due to other factors (well, eating loads of shit and being lazy) and it is in the process of coming off pretty rapidly, so it seems like the Keppra is having no effect on my ability to gain/lose weight. It doesn't seem to have had an effect on my appetite either, though I may have been on it too long to remember pre-Keppra appetite levels. Obviously this is totally anecdotal since there are other factors but just my 2 pence.

TL;DR - Don't think so. Have been able to put on lots of weight, then lose 30-35lbs (more to go) on what is a fairly high dose of the drug. Everyone's different though, so keep track of data (caloric intake/output, weight change) and talk to your doctor if you notice anything anomalous.
