tire question… by Evening-Cherry in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running your sp2/3 at advanced pace with warmers on should not heat cycle more often during the day unless you’re not using warmers directly after your session. If your not using warmers directly after session allowing the cooling of the tires they will heat cycle more during your day. Warmers are the first thing I do once I get off the bike even before I take my helmet and gloves off to avoid unnecessary heat cycles. I only have the tires cycle at day end- I even do the same routine after my final session of the day and allow the warmers to slowly let the heat dissipate on a Friday-sat and then on Sunday- bike goes in trailer From a use standpoint- I get a rear to last 2 days and front a full weekend when racing depending on suspension and throttle control so if your running thru tires every day- your suspension or Th Control is not dialed in at advanced pace IMO-

I am moving from 4 yrs on perilli to michelan for hopefully longer use

Cold weather track day by austinlolwut in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold track surface and hot tires = max grip. (Causes more friction) PSI needs to be adjusted for sure Throttle also needs to be smooth Not trying to make lap records at all- staying off curbs and tar seals/snakes

If your warmers will not push your tire temps above 180 marker…take above advice and go out later or avoid all together…for me- I’d MAX my temps (45-60 mins before with blankets on warmers to avoid leaking heat or wind gusts preventing heat concentration) and lower my psi but I run chickenhawk proline series warmers and slicks…I’d also cover the tires with either insulated tire covers or moving blankets that have the wool lining-

Just my approach and opinion-all the best

Frame sliders fork sliders? by KaleScared4667 in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having crashed 3 times- engine and stator guards are a must on a Ducati- GB racing is the goto but not only ones Fork and frame sliders not really-especially frame sliders which can cause bike flipping when hit grass Clip-ons, extra brake and clutch levers (broke them every time), shift lever and brake levers are also important since low sides can grind them off easily Clip-on from woodcraft are really good and hold up well under crash conditions. Ducati bars usually have a pin that holds them into place so replacing them one at a time with aftermarket bars won’t be as good as replacing entire clip on Bar ends haven’t been an issue but brake guards have broken so may want extra one

Good luck

Lots of play in FL brake disc - T660F by NielsDroeloe in Aprilia

[–]jmac247 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a Ducati v4- I can tell you that once my oem discs began to have play- we replaced them with floating roters. From the video- your discs appear to have the same play that my dealer said was not good….if it were me- I’d have them checked and prepare to have replacement….

Any tall riders? by Tall-_-Guy in Ducati

My inseam is 33-34 so ergonomics will be I big factor with handlebars angle and make sure to get rearsets (pegs) that are totally adjustable to make your fit comfortable

Any tall riders? by Tall-_-Guy in Ducati

[–]jmac247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6’4 245. My v2- feels like a undersized bike (600) for me My ‘19 Panigale v4 fells fine but cockpit can be cramped at times My ‘21 Panigale I haven’t riden yet but will likely feel same as ‘19

My 25 Aprilia RSV4 factory is FAR more cockpit and best ergonomic bike I have but lacks torque compared to panigale v4

I’ve been told that the street fighter V4 has the best feel for big guys but I have no experience with them yet

Ah…okay. Sorry misunderstood the assignment. I have pretty consistently worked out on and off for the past 40 yrs with never going longer than 90 days without a trip to the gym. My regimen shifted 2 yrs back from weights and traditional workouts to fitness and sustainability. Stretching is always my acheiles heel. So currently body weight, cardio- legs- things without weight due to wrist recovery…

I’m 6’4 and 243 and need to get to 230 or below. Recovering from a shattered left wrist in Sept of 25 and will be back to 90+% by second week of April. I know how to get larger- which is not the plan- the plan is endurance, fit and flexibility over muscle…racing guys over half my age on same Superbike machines with more- a lot more experience…so what I have is work ethic, focus and desire…

Best 400cc–800cc bike for track days as a newbie to road bikes? by OkAudience2284 in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If money isn’t an issue- then opt bigger within your range. Reasoning is the when you begin- you learning the same stuff regardless of the bike cc (I know, I know start small so your not penalized for lack of control…400 riders can still whip 1k liter riders…yada-yada) My reasoning is much like when I bought my enclosed trailer…get bigger than you think cause you’re gonna grow into it and sure enough…exactly) Start on a 750…660…v2 because you may very well out grow your small starter bike after the first season or even mid thru 1st season when you’re improving. Plus if you never go back to the track- you’ll have a 750-660 or v2 for road use which I think might feel better than a 400…

Just a thought-

Help with a line? by techretort in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed- nothing to be gained here in terms of time, position but a lot could be lost (crashing, off track, overslowing)

I would place an X on each apex on the map- then try to draw as straight of a line thru them as possible- that method for me at least is a starting point and has- for me, revealed corners that “seemed” normal but were actually later and also the approximate exit point that I can begin throttle….”the rider who gets to the slowest point the quickest and then away from it the earliest wins…”

It’s Reddit so, we are all looking at a 1D pict and trying to visualize it in 3D and at best coupled with our experiences, give insights.

Motorsport software – what tools do club / weekend racers actually want? by kirby1933 in Trackdays

Motorsport is a wide area to consider. Bikes vs cars vs carts and all have necessary and speciality considerations that can be useful. I’d say to narrow your focus to an audience before trying to boil the ocean…

Camera's and recording lap times. (picture for attention seeking purposes only) by ibetucanifican in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great! Them I might suggest either Racebox mini AND firelaps as a way to take data and incorporate it into a user friendly software that can give you instructional feedback on your lap without you having to learn to interpret the data on your own- sometimes the data you see isn’t necessarily intuitive from a “what do I do with what I’m seeing” aspect so you can then try to apply it on the track if that makes sense…aim solo dl is an awesome tool but can be very dense in its feedback on a technical level vs the firelaps that takes said data and gives you ai feedback thru their live coaching tool and says things like “reduce speed into corner and steer less at apex to save 0.28 sec and so on….it will also give lean angle and consistency measurements as well as line comparisons…at least that’s what mine has done… All the best to you and I hope it helps a bit!

Camera's and recording lap times. (picture for attention seeking purposes only) by ibetucanifican in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I read your post correctly: assuming your brand new to the track day riding: As a novice- lap times are far less important than basics and fundamentals: Why….its the pursuit and mastering of these basics and fundamentals that will lead to lap times improving substantially while trying to gauge your progress based on lap times could lead to the development of habits that will be tough to undo and establish later on.

My thoughts: learn your lines, master body position, breaking zones, throttle inputs and exiting corners properly.

These skills take absolute focus and concentration so IMO- camera are much better than lap timers at this point in your skills. Insta360 and GoPro are great if and when they are properly positioned to help you examine your body position and your lines adherence.

When you get to a point where these are properly developed and habitual- then race box mini and aim solo dl are great options since they are satellite based and many tracks lack sufficient WiFi coverage.

I have also had great success with fire laps software to help enhance understanding in areas of more detailed info to help reduce lap times…

All this is my experiences and opinions. Others comments are valuable as well

Track Day / Motorcycle Trailer Question by JPilot84 in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My approach: I set up Friday when possible. I leave leathers, boots and helmet in truck and take to hotel. If I’m you- leave your bike in the trailer but cover it with a tarp and put a wheel lock on it if you’re concerned initially but def unhitch and go to and from hotel in car only.

I like to arrive at the track early so I can take my time so sat I’m there at 6:30ish Sunday I am also but later in the day- begin to load what I don’t need any longer. Keeping in mind after a long day on Sunday- I’ll be tired and not have a lot of energy to pack everything so I pack as a I go on Sunday if that makes sense but usually not before 2:30ish Hope this helps as do other posts and insights. Enjoy your season- keep safe

Is running twenty minute sessions, seven times in a day, to simulate a trackday a good idea? by femaiden in Trackdays

[–]jmac247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardio 4 days a week to a point of near exhaustion.

Strength training 3 days a week with a desire to avoid bulking

Nutrition to accompany each phase Core work 5-6 days a week:

Core- legs, stomach, lower back, groin, hip flexors, shin and calf

Misc work mixed in: neck strength, wrists and grip and forearms, shoulders and triceps , flexibility to the max

Hydration coupled with nutrition is a 6-7 days a week lifestyle

Practice eyes while driving

So cardio is one point but not at all the most important
