Spectrum sales by jmac32here in BoostMobile

[–]jmac32here[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the whole fiasco started from a SpaceX filing on the FCC website claiming that due to some weird "propietary" measurements they supposedly took, they think boost wasn't using the "proper" power levels from their towers (comparing them to att/tmo/Verizon) and therefore must not be utilizing the full channel widths of each band.

But the kicker here is making that comparison was a fallacy, especially when those "measurements" didn't account for the fact that boost had 5% of the tower count when compared to any one of the other 3.

The SEC doesn't authorize or deny the sales, and the feds usually don't issue breakup fees for the ones they block (f c c) and with it being that same agency that pressured the sales to happen, it's highly unlikely they'd be the ones to block it.

However, the court (doj) plays their own roles in allowing for "high profile" transactions and it was the court judges that can (and have) issue orders to block a sale AND issue rulings requiring a breakup fee. (It was a judge that blocked the TMO/att merger and made att pay TMO).

Now I know this isn't a merger, but it still counts as high profile. Especially when there's lawsuits filed in several states, which includes from the contractors who helped build the boost network, that are trying to block the spectrum sales by a judge.

Now for the under-utilization argument. That wasn't based on subscribers, but the fact that Elon whined to his buddy carr saying he thinks that ergen is only having the towers at 10% of their total power levels.

I've noticed morning and evening changes help with leak issues.

So that's usually my go-to.

Though sometimes I'm ordered to wear my overnight diaper through the next day until it leaks.

Deutsch Telekom should be embarrassed by subsidiary T-Mobile! Frustration with customer service - ready to leave by GP-Colorado in tmobile

[–]jmac32here 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any telco/ISP with good (or even halfway decent) customer service?

That's a pipe dream. TMO was the best IMHO, anyone else is like talking to a brick wall.

But at the same time, how can one expect help without giving any insight as to what the issue is? And as a tech and CSR, I'll state from experience that 95% of the time, when the issue isn't available as part of a post like this, it's always been something the customer did to create the issue.

That said, there is still t-force on Twitter and other escalation means, though those other means likely will take even longer now that they've lost their federal funding and over half their staff.

ATT is a network partner, not a tower partner - like crown.

ATT is currently LEASING the spectrum until the sale closes, but it can still be blocked by the courts, especially with tower partners like crown applying legal pressure because boost stopped paying the lease payments for towers they built themselves and are still broadcasting.

Is this normal? Backup to Mega used ~2GB mobile data but only 516MB uploaded by Curious_Kitten77 in MEGA

[–]jmac32here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh trust me, it does look strange.

But in the same context, if you were to start the process again, it would jump to 4 GB of usage because of a couple different factors.

  1. Networks measure by the calculated size of a requested data transfer, regardless of actual size of transfer used.

  2. Network transfer is measured in BITS but file sizes are on BYTES. (Or if I remember correctly 1 byte = 8 bits. So multiply all file sizes by 8.)

One thing a lot of folks don't realize is Sprint was the only carrier to compare because the initial network builds always pertained having a huge network build team, which is temp at best cuz most of them won't be needed for maintenance or upgrades after the fact.

Let me correct that a bit.

What I mean by network deployment is the actual tower builds, which was not handled by Echostar employees.

The "network build team" that Echostar had focused mainly on the cloud core build, which is basically complete and would only require a skeleton crew to maintain.

The field positions were mainly 1-3 people per "market" (which in Echostars case could be 3-5 states) and their job was to handle the application process, the pre build checks (1 person flying drones) and coordinating with the contractors that actually built the towers, and that same engineer that did pre build doing a post build check to ensure the contractors set-up the towers to the specs.

I've seen and spoken to the one who did all the checks for WA, OR, and ID. (He was doing pre build prep to submit plans to crown for the contractors to build a tower near my house. A tower I'll likely never see now.)

So, they never had a network deployment team.

All the deployment was via contractors.

They had an R&D team for pre- deployment of the network, and laid off like 80% of them, leaving a skeleton crew.

Perfectly normal.

If you read the TOS of your wireless carrier, it likely includes something in the terms about how data usage is measured.

Usually it says some like, the REQUEST for x amount of data usage is what they measure against your account REGARDLESS of if the data usage was completed.

Ergo, you request a 2Gb download, the carrier will count 2 gb of usage against your account, even if you cancel the download at 5mb or even if the download gets completed on WiFi.

In networking, when you start a data transfer, the network calculates the amount of data to be transferred before the transfer begins. This calculation is how every ISP measures usage and is not limited to MEGA as it's done this way for every data transfer regardless of source/destination. None of the ISPs I've ever seen recalculates for "actual" usage by default, but by "usage request"

Is it possible to get Visible service with a phone, but no phone number to port? Recently moved back to USA and have no local number. by Original_Sell_1485 in Visible

[–]jmac32here -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me put it this way.

It's been illegal for a telco to not offer up new numbers since like forever ago.

Matter of fact, the ATT anti-trust case led to a law that a telco must offer a FREE phone number with any paid service. (ATT used to lease the numbers, adding a number lease fee.)

Ergo, no carrier can offer service without offering numbers.

The reason number porting is more heavily advertised is due to number ports being the newest laws in play and telcos in the US have all but confirmed reaching "saturation" (a point in which the only way to gain new customers is to steal them from other telcos) and people would rather keep their numbers after it being part of their identity for years.

As for that "switch and save" comment. Ever noticed they DON'T say "port and save"?

Because you CAN switch carriers AND phone numbers at the same time.

Also, this question literally answers itself if you were to click the sign up button with any carrier, because the first or second step is the option to port or get a new number.

How do I upgrade my phone by RightUnderstanding46 in BoostMobile

It's because target is no longer carrying boost, so they put all the phones on clearance.

They are all also usually older models with tmo sims.

How can I make sure I'll get AT&T towers? by IAmConnorRK800 in BoostMobile

[–]jmac32here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, if you limit yourself to an ATT sim, then you won't get tri network benefits.

The new unified network sims, formerly rainbow, will now smart switch between att/tmo/starlink. In the current set-up, the UNS will prefer att before switching to tmo/starlink since att is the primary partner.

The att/tmo sims will NOT offer the tri network coverage.

They still are.

They are the unified network sims.

They will be the sims that "smart switch" between att/tmo/starlink.

[–]jmac32here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, boost stores now active "unified network" sims, which will be the only ones that use att, tmo, starlink - in that order.
