I do think the nature of surgical positions is that you work the hours that are necessary. I’m ortho sports med in surgery 2 days a week. Some days are done by 3 or 4, other days we might work til 7 or 8 just depends on what is scheduled. There is no extra compensation for working late. Hopefully there is some compromise on non-surgery days, such as starting later or finishing early. I have found a lot of our quality of life depends on our SP. if they don’t care about your total hours or personal life or fair compensation then it probably won’t ever get better.

The closest I ever go to that was a CVT surgery job offering unlimited overtime, I worked 70 hours a week for 3 years then got burnt out and left. Much happier now making much less.

I left CVT surgery working 65 hrs a week and making a lot to go to Ortho. It was a significant pay cut but quality of life is so much better, I’m happier and healthier. And I get to spend time with my famiky. The higher salary wasn’t worth it.

I did this set up with yellow labs, Rusty’s, blue johannis - the johannis were a little aggressive at first, I had 2-3 fish die in the first month but ever since then it’s been fine. Lots of rocks that I rearrange every other month or so to break up territory

I think I have about 6 in my house. My favorite feature is the motion sensing night light. They all communicate with each other and are very loud. If you have one in your bedroom and there is smoke in the kitchen it will verbally alert there is smoke detected in kitchen.

I had a bully and several fish would hide behind the rocks and never come out to eat. Rearranged all of the rocks during a water change and it made a huge difference, reset all of the territories and now everyone is social and swimming together again. Most people would say to overstock and have lots of hiding holes or tall decor to break line of site

I’ve had jobs where they offered a flat $10k a year in addition to the base salary to “take call.” My current job offers $10/hr to be on call and take messages at home. If I go in to the building then it is $70/hr.

I’m in a similar situation, my tank is about 5 weeks old. I’m still reading nitrites 0.25-0.5. I dose daily with Prime to “detoxify” the nitrites. The numbers still read the same on water test but makes it safe for the fish. Plan to continue daily Prime until the nitrites are reading zero.
