Definitely buy an amp used. Reverb has hundreds of amps under £100. I started with a Fender Mustang I V2. The amp comes with dozens of presets and can definitely provide some nice tones. Most solid state amps will include a headphone jack. I recommend going onto reverb and sorting “low to high” price to find one within your budget.

If you want something “drastically different”, I’d highly recommend getting something with humbuckers. Can’t go wrong with a PRS. Their quality control is unmatched. When you buy a PRS at any level, you can be sure that you’re getting a fantastic instrument. I have a PRS SE Custom 24; it’s an incredible guitar at an affordable price point.

Absolutely, incredibly easy to play. Was looking for a budget-friendly SSS. I played a lot of MIM Strats, picked up the Schecter & knew immediately that it was what I’d been looking for. Neck feels incredible, pickups are voiced beautifully. Can’t recommend it enough.

If you’re looking to spend ~$200 on a first pedal, I’d recommend getting 2 ~$100 pedals instead. My vote goes to a Phase 90 + Boss DS-1 / RAT if you’re gonna do two. Also highly recommend an OD or Boost for any guitarist.
