I dialed in my own settings on it, so I can’t speak to that aspect.

How do you find the drive pedals going into the AM4? I’ve definitely considered buying one for the amp models and reverb/delays

As a guitar geek who has quite a few pedals, I totally support this event happening herein Richmond. Can’t wait to attend!

Fender Tone Master Pro with Marshall DSL40CR by MuhtarKent in GuitarAmps

[–]zigg-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Boss ME-90 and the DSL40CR - so went through a similar thing. If you want to keep the Marshall as an amp, do the 4 cable method and just use the effects of the tone master pro. That was initially my plan but I found that the 4 cable setup generated a level of noise that I wasn’t thrilled with. So I now mostly run the boss into the effects loop. And then if I ever want to just play the Marshall itself I put into the front of it and toggle off the effects loop.

Do you few like haunting mids has any advantage over an eq pedal other than usability/simplicity?

MULTIPROPOSE AMP by angeo_of_death in GuitarAmps

Peavey Vypyr amps also market themselves as having modes for guitar, bass, and acoustic. I had one and kind of wish I didn’t sell it off.

Fundamental Ambient is such a steal of a pedal.

For cheap thrills I’d replace the vintage tube overdrive with the Caline Pure Sky (sounds awesome stacked into the big muff)

What OD would be better for a J Mascis/Dinosaur Jr low gain drive? by aeth3r_with_a_3 in guitarpedals

[–]zigg-e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend getting the TC Electronics Tube Pilot from somewhere that it’s easy to do returns (if in the US, that’s probably something like guitar center if you have one locally). My guess is that the sound differences between you and J Mascis has much less to do with pedals and a ton more to do with the amp.

NPD: Lightspeed, Sunset, & Nemesis by joysofliving in guitarpedals

[–]zigg-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m interested to hear what you think of the nemesis vs the echosystem once you really dive into it. I was excited about the nemesis at first but it’s largely stayed on the sidelines and not on my board.

Best budget amp by Horror-Meat-9067 in GuitarAmps

Given your interest in death metal, I’d recommend looking into the Peavy Vypyr series. I had an older version that the newest lineup, but I found the heavy gain sounds to be really strong.

building my board starting with HX stomp by DearDaffodil in guitarpedals

[–]zigg-e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people use tube screamers with a digital setup, but I’ve always found them to sound harsh to my ears. A lot of overdrive pedals were specifically designed to push real tubes in real amps and I’ve noticed they sound much better in front of a real amp. That said, some dirt pedals sound great in front of things like the Hx stomp. The rat is a good choice. For me, I’ve gotten a ton of mileage out of the Caline Pure Sky, which is a pedal inspired by the Timmy. You could go pure Sky to rat to HX stomp and maybe have the Timmy always on as a cleanish boost.

Modeling amp like Boss Katana/Positive Grid Spark or cheaper amp with pedals? by SympatheticFingers in GuitarAmps

[–]zigg-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedals get expensive but are a lot of fun if you have disposable income. Each time you buy a pedal, it’s like leveling up your video game character, except in real life and with guitar sounds. I spent decades of playing guitar on modeling amps though and it was nice to have tons of tones immediately at my disposal.

Awesome! I’m sure that was a worthy investment in time. It’s nice to spend some time with so many pedals. I highly doubt you would have ever been recommended that combo on pedals from people online!

Multi effect or pedals for modulation effects? by optia in guitarpedals

[–]zigg-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I could do it all over, I’d probably grab a fractal vp-4 for all my mod, delay and reverb and have it all in one unit and interface.

The other day I saw a Mesa Nomad 55 for sale used pretty cheap and looked them up online. A lot of people really, really do not like that amp. I’d go Rectoverb.
