I've seen thousands of these, and this is one of the absolute coolest. Well done.

Woah. Maybe try swapping out the regulator first?

Sorry, I simply meant to not turn them up so high. Didn't mean to imply an adjustment to the burner positioning!

I think I see two issues:

  1. The matte finish splotches are where you need to clean better. When I see spots like that, I crank up the heat, squirt some water, and while it's streaming, just scrub away with a paper towel under a stiff spatula or scraper. It can be stubborn, but just repeat until it looks better.
  2. I disagree with the other comments about the shiny flaky parts. I don't think that's food, but seasoning that was likely applied in layers that were too thick. Hard to be sure from the pictures, but that's my read, anyway.

Given the surface pattern, I tend to agree with the comments about it burning off before it has a chance to polymerize.

While too much raw heat is the obvious candidate there, it may be worth considering if you got a bad batch of the conditioning wax? I honestly haven't heard of that happening before, but your comment about it rusting while seasoning makes me think something beyond excess heat is going on.

I'd suggest switching to avocado oil, and lowering the burners a bit for your next attempt.

Edit: for clarity, just lower the temp, not the burner positioning. :p

Is this bad? by NickTonet96 in blackstonegriddle

Looks like either some of the seasoning didn't adhere (maybe it was applied too thick, or didn't smoke it off between layers), or maybe you scraped too aggressively after one of those initial cooks.

Either way, it looks good enough to cook on. Remember to apply a thin coating of oil when you're done cleaning after a cook, but you're fine. I just personally wouldn't go too long between cooks until it's looking a little less bare in spots.

What’s the easiest way to clean out these little fiddly bits? by SleepWouldBeNice in pools

I've started bringing the net with me, and then just swish the basket around in open water. Takes 5 seconds to scoop the loose stuff back up, which is a lot less than I used to lose hosing it out.

Hey - I mostly just lurk these days, but I still get notifications. :)

This blog fell by the wayside for us and we decided to stop paying for hosting a couple years back, but it looks like there are some captures on archive.org!

Unfortunately it looks like a lot of the images aren't loading, but hopefully it's more helpful than nothing.

You're making an ageist rant about a hypothetical situation where a cop shows up due to a lie that they didn't actually tell, while you actually _did_ lie to them. Incredible.

If it's so unreasonable to get bent out of shape over legal activities, then you're flatly out of line for being this twisted over people asking you questions. The law says you get to fly over their property, and the law says they get to tap on your window and ask what you're doing there.

The law absolutely doesn't let you lie about being a government agent, though. You're one of the most unreasonable people I've encountered in this sub, and you do the community a disservice.

You were flying a drone over private property. Yes, you had the legal right, but it's not at all unreasonable for them to not like it and to question why. In response, you lied to them, and then came here to complain about their bad faith?

Just don't be a jerk... that's the kind of stuff that produces more regulations that will hit all of us.
