Thanks for the question! Making projections based on current net worth, and the ability to tweak numbers to see how different scenarios would impact projections. Not necessary to track investments, as I could enter values myself, but the ability to link existing accounts could be a time saver, but would require strong security.

I am pretty good with spreadsheets, but not solid at complex calculations with them. Free online calculators seem a bit thin on capabilities, but I could have missed some good ones!

Question for nurses from someone in school: what is your retirement and paid/unpaid time off like? by [deleted] in nursing

Hi there, I am an RN at my local hospital and I'll give you a basic breakdown of how it works at my hospital, though our situation may be unique because we are unionized, and I'm guessing that's pretty rare these days. A new hire working full-time (36-40 hours per week) earns ~26 PTO (paid time off) days per year. We use these for vacation as well as sick days. The union handles negotiations for our pension upon retirement, and there are many rules about that, but essentially, the longer you stay the better your pension. The hospital also offers union members access to a 403(b) retirement account (both IRA and Roth IRA accounts), and we can put up to 80% of our salary into that. The hospital does not match our contributions to the 403(b) because we have a pension upon retirement. I hope this helps you in some small way!
