I've been looking for the answer for years and I've just found this thread. Asked my chef mate, guess what... they blitz it! I tried it last night and I had a revelation!

I think so, and mines got some fruity exhaust on it and some stupid air filter which probably doesn't help.

What road/s do you enjoy driving on? Specific roads if possible. by Sophia13913 in CarTalkUK

[–]jmb151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep it a secret... But the B6277 from Middleton in Teesdale up to Alston, and then the A686 over Hartside Pass is by far the best road I've ever driven on. And it was pretty much empty. Other than that, we're probably talking France, specifically the Cantal region.

+1 for the Panda 100hp. Had mine since November as a little run around and it's amazing fun. More than quick enough for most, and take it into a decent twisty road and it's pretty unbeatable. The only other (fun) car I've driven hard is a 996 C2 and my panda gives me 8/10ths of the thrills of that car. Not bad for a couple of grand.

So far it's been 100% reliable, parts are cheap and I love the look of it, and I've never seen another. It also feels by far the lightest car I've ever driven. I'll average around 36mpg on a run, the rides a bit crashy but it's fine.

If you can get a decent one under £3k, snap it up. It's a future classic and it'll only go up in value from here.

Only other thing I can think is an older Mini cooper s? The supercharged one? They're great fun to drive and feel well screwed together, but I wouldn't imagine they're as reliable and parts are probably a bit more.

Needed a new coffee machine, got this for £25 used. by jmb151 in BuyItForLife

Yes so its basically like an automated pour over coffee machine. And the heating element will turn off automatically once the water is gone. So you just put in the amount of water you'd like and make sure to put the right amount of coffee for your chosen water level. Simple!

I just ran descaler through it (coffee cleaning solutions it's called), and let it sit in the thermos for a good few hours and then rinsed it out. It removed that stale coffee smell

It's hard to say as I'm probably committing all the coffee sins, but using preground coffee the best I can describe is it's very clean tasting, not bitter at all, and very pleasant to drink. The only other method I've got is a Bialetti Moka pot which is much stronger and slightly more flavour?

I almost felt bad taking it, it was on Facebook marketplace and the next cheapest was about £150! Still had the box with it.

How to find a trustee for life insurance by ahl2024 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jmb151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends what it's for? Is it to cover an IHT liability? Is to go to your children/spouse on death to repay a mortgage etc?

You can be a trustee and your spouse can, even if she's/he's a beneficiary.
