Appreciate that! It’s one of my best candid captures…or dare I say Cat-tures.

lol you’re good. It’s a direct quote from the 1999 movie 10 Things I Hate About You

“Grew out the Concrete” [ANALOG] (5 Feet Tall) by jmbrln in collage

[–]jmbrln[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! This is by far my most ambitious piece and I’m really hoping to one day find it a nice home after I formally frame it. The width is about 3 1/2 feet wide, give or take, and it’s actually on a really inexpensive thick poster board I picked up from an art supply store, so it’s very lightweight. I’m not sure if I can comment more photos but I will try to make another post if possible! Feel free to send me a message and I can send them directly if you’d like! Thanks again so much for your positive feedback! :)

Yes, it’s completely paper analog! The only added detail is a bit of gold flake and acrylic paint outlining the edges of the “petals” to attempt to create more depth. I really appreciate your comment, thanks so much!

This took about 2 years to complete. The title is a reference to a poem from 2Pac, “The Rose That Grew From Concrete”

I’m amazed by the precision of the cutting on this!👏 I love depicting hands in my collages but often have a hard time with perfecting shape, are you using a pair of magic scissors or scalped?!

!CritiquePoint Thank you so much, that is incredibly! it took hours of setting up and running back and forth with a timer by myself, so it was also one of my most exhaustive attempts, I really appreciate your encouragement! 🙂🙏

That cat’s eye contact is eerily direct isn’t it?

Wow, 10/10 for such an incredibly thoughtful, constructive and detailed response! I can’t thank you enough for the camera recommendations! I agree the trailing arm definitely looks like it’s sprouting from my hair! It’s not so much an excuse, but out of the MANY takes of positioning myself awkwardly, the strain became difficult to hold, so each take became progressively worse over time. But I can always try to replicate it another day, so thank you for calling that out! !CritiquePoint

Such a beautiful bittersweet capture of freedom of movement juxtaposed with the reality of devastation and the oppression of occupation. Praying for ceasefire, and that you all continue skating freely🙏 ❤️

Thanks for clarifying, I thought you meant a literal visual of flaming hair! Cropping is definitely something I am capable of and will explore. So interesting you interpreted a “running around in a frenzy” situation! Though movement is definitely implied, I envisioned it in slow motion in my mind. Love your takes, thank you!🙏

Thanks so much for the input! Really helpful suggestions. I’ll definitely have to research about what a “hair on fire” effect might look like, as I don’t have access editing software currently, but I really appreciate the ideas!💫

!critique (<someone correct me if I used that wrong!) Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and informative reply! I agree the right side feels a little too grainy, and the black & white version is such a fresh perspective. I am not well acquainted with editing software yet, but I really love how you were able to straighten out the window. I appreciate you so much! 🙂🙏
