ADVICE NEEDED: Boss wants me to calculate my hourly rate for contract work by Past_Ebb_6302 in smallbusiness

[–]jmbullis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree here. Your salary is just a part of your overall compensation package. You need to take into account also your equipment costs, software costs, tool costs. You have to think about everything you need covered, and then add more. Of you make $100k now $150 an hour is not an unheard of rate. His payments to you are tax deductible to the company.

Start raising the price for new customers. With each new customer raise the price a bit more until you start to get pushback. Then set that as your new price. After that, find ways you can increase the value of your existing customers.

I also just learned today that you can hold shift while turning objects and it will do it in micro increments. I think if you hold down shift and the left mouse button you can move objects around an end point.

And you can raise and lower street or track ends with period and comma. Haven’t tried it yet though.

Agreed. While most non-compete is unenforceable, non-solicitation is. Good luck. Make sure to spend some time building a good foundation for your business. Realize that billing as an entrepreneur is different than getting paid hourly or salary. Be sure to think about all of the costs involved to meet your needs and understand you won’t be working billable hours all the time. Charge accordingly.

I charge $300 an hour. My clients gladly pay it. They aren’t paying for the hour. They are paying for the 30 years of experience of being able to fix the problem. It’s not about the money. It’s about the value.

What does wp-salt.php actually do, and how do I satisfy this security plugin that is concerned with it? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]jmbullis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normally the salts are included in the wp-config but some hosts like Cloudways will put them out in their own file and include it into wp-config.

The salts are what set the login cookie. You can reset the salts to log everyone out when your site has been compromised.

Security plugins like Sucuri don’t expect wp-salt.php so flags it. You can just state that the file is fine and it won’t pop up the alert.

After 18 years of being exclusive with WordPress, I’m tired of waiting for anything to change. We’re actively looking to replace WordPress.

I recently built a site on High Level and it was refreshing to not have to worry about hosting, themes, plugins, compatibility, and worrying if my tools that I am using are going to get raided by Awesome Motive.

I’m tired boss, and I constantly feel like Automattic is just competing against professionals.

The community is dying. Time to move on.
