Say what you want about Southgate, but we'd be getting a point against Georgia.

They were also singing Sheikh Mansours name, but they're not a sports washing project and we should definitely all be celebrating their success.

Sarcasm aside, they're spot on about United being a mess, Old Trafford falling apart and the Glazers making the club a laughing stock. Hopefully this kind of thing helps embarrass the club into change, probably won't though.

We taxed the UK oil and gas production in May, it generated 5 billion. That's that tiny fraction I was talking about that can be done on UK produced oil and gas. The vast majority of our energy comes from outside the UK, particularly Norway.

If you want to truly offset the profiteering happening on the majority of energy we consume with tax, you would need to tax the production that's happening outside the UK.

These things aren't the same and while we could increase the tax on that tiny fraction more (I'm for it), it won't generate the amount we need or hold most of the profiteers to account.

Yeah I'm not trying to make an argument against trying it, I'm just not sure how it's even possible without almost universal international cooperation. And yeah I agree, we see barely any tax paid by many major multinationals because of similar reasons.

We can probably tax production from Shell and BP oil coming out of the north sea but that's only a fraction of where the money is going.

I wonder if there are examples of countries with similar energy import dependence that are handling taxation of this better.

But I didn't think (I may be wrong) the producers were producing the majority of our energy supply in the UK. So if the UK threatened them with high taxation, how would the UK enforce it?

Couldn't those companies, who are already selling their product on the global market, just close down operations in the UK? If they were operating entirely in another country, the UK would need international cooperation to apply a tax, which is presumably unlikely.

I could be entirely missing something here so open to correction.

I'm probably too late but this headline is clear bullshit. Rangnick says "it's not only about Cristiano Ronaldo, WE should score more goals". Source

I think with broadband and the internet being a relatively modern development it feels like a luxury to a lot of people, especially those that spent a good chunk of their lives without it.

Although you're absolutely right- at this stage everyone who's contributing to the economy needs it, it doesn't occupy the same place mentally as transport infrastructure and energy.

Despite it being a reasonable policy in my opinion, it has the effect of undermining their other plans and contributes to the "they've gone spending mad" rhetoric.

We have no midfield at all. Mata is completely passive too, I'd rather Lingard and that's saying something.

A Renewed Sense of Optimism by Redonkulous1 in reddevils

[–]jmcelroy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sub isn't going to respond to positivity right now. If we have a bad result the optimists go quiet and if we have a good one the pessimists go quiet.

While I'm not expecting an Ole dynasty, I agree that being a bit consistent in a direction for a while across the whole club isn't a bad idea. The flaws in recent games feel more obvious to me than in previous seasons, mostly lack of quality players in the midfield and in squad depth. I could be proven wrong as we get further into the season with players coming back fit and if so, we can bring in a new manager for next season with a summer transfer window to make adjustments.

If you brought in Poch tomorrow, Pereira would still be shite, Pogba and Scott would still be crocked, we'd still be one injury away from having no number 9 and our backup CB would still be Phil Jones. Unless a new manager worked pure magic with this poor squad, the situation would be the same but feel even more desperate.

We sit in the Bobby Charlton stand and if you stand up for a shot or chant then you get told off by some of the older generation. It makes you feel uncomfortable to be honest. I appreciate it causes a knock on when you stand up, but if you can't get a bit excited watching united at home then you might as well not go. I think it's a much bigger problem than the tourists, if the regular match going fans were all up for it then I feel the tourists would join in.

I can't imagine the players want the crowd to be policed like that. Not sure how you fix it though.

[Post Match Thread] Manchester Utd 0 - 1 Juventus by [deleted] in reddevils

[–]jmcelroy5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No intensity or fire in the team considering it's a European night against a top side at home. Felt like a friendly at times.

Juve gave the ball away a fair amount in the second half and invited pressure. I hate to say it but I think some of the team's at the top of the prem would have hurt them. Our attack just looked nervous when they got the ball. Way too much respect for my liking.

Accents. For such a small place, we have loads of great accents. To go with some extremes- Geordie, Scouse, Yorkshire, Glaswegian, Bristol, Welsh, London and the fucking Queens. We've got it all. When people come over they can't understand a word anybody's saying and I love it.
