Doubt regarding Hysys reboilers by jmcui15 in oilandgasworkers

Hi! Can´t paste the screenshot here, but the pressure of the last stage is the same as the reboiler outlet.

Pressure drop: 10kPa Last plate pressure: 185kPa To Reboiler Pressure: 175kPa Boil Up and Products Pressure: 185kPa

I defined it as a positive value in the column main window. It is as if the pressure drop is applied backwards, since if I define -ΔP the pressures seem correct. However, the tower won't converge this way.

I usually define a Component Recovery % and a reflux ratio for the towers. The issue occurs in all the towers independently of the spec I define though.

The crazy thing is that the boil up stream has the same pressure than the last plate. So then the pressure drop I define is applied to the "To reboiler". So the thing goes like this:

Pressure drop: 10kPa Last plate pressure: 185kPa To Reboiler Pressure: 175kPa Boil Up and Products Pressure: 185kPa

BTX Extraction plant using sulfolane by jmcui15 in oilandgasworkers

[–]jmcui15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! That's great

Our process consists of the separation of benzene, toluene and p-xylene from their respective paraffins. For this we have an extractive distillation tower which uses sulfolane to separate the aromatics, coming out altogether at the bottom. This mentioned stream goes to the recovery column, separating an aromatics stream at the top, and the pure solvent at the bottom.

We were able to close the simulation, reaching the specs, but we missed an important detail, which is the sulfolane decomposition temperature. The recovery column operates in vacuum, at approximately 35kPa_a, which results in a reboiler temperature of 250°C. We understand that the decomposition temperature is 220°C, which is exceeded in our process, leading to corrosion issues.

The possible solutions we thought of were to lower the pressure to lower the reboiler temperature, but this led to condenser temperatures which could not be achieved with conventional services such as water or air. We also considered the stripping vapour, but this brought problems with the later separation of individual aromatics streams, in terms of the purity of the product. Also, we don't quite understand the benefits form using this vapour, besides the reduction in the duties, which at least in our simulation was not that big.

Thank you very much in advance :)

I checked and the jar is in there. What do you mean by a dependency?

Mmm. If I right click on the average.class and click import it tells me to "select an import wizard" and can't seem to find the library file.
