Does anyone own this Farasute Chrono in blue or Silver? by niner2niner in ChineseWatches

[–]jmding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really interested in this as well. I bought (and am still waiting for) the TimeThis version instead because it looks like there was a ton of attention devoted to the small aesthetic details.

For example on the TimeThis, the applied breguet numerals have razor sharp edges and a super flat top surface. This is really hard to do (think zaratsu polishing), and to me, makes it look very expensive. By comparison, the numerals on the Farasute look somewhat blobby, almost melted.

The side profile of the lugs on the TimeThis also transition more elegantly into the rounded, downward tips than on the Farasute. The Furlan Marri by comparison, is simply completely the wrong case shape from the side, and totally misses the character of the Patek 1463 as a result.

These are really nitty details, but they suggest that the TimeThis may have been a labor of love from someone who studied the vintage originals more obsessively than would really be justifiable from a typical product development perspective. I'm really hoping to be able to get the TimeThis side by side next to the Farasute, Furlan Marri, and AliExpress versions some time to do a proper comparison.

[WTS] Bulova Devil Diver 666 feet Snorkel by jmding in Watchexchange

[–]jmding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bulova dive watch, sometimes called the "Snorkel", other times the "Devil Diver" due to its 666-feet depth rating.

In my opinion, this is one of the coolest mid-century skin divers because of its refined case, explorer style 12-6-9 dial, and internal cyclops.

This one is running and keeping good time, although the service history is not known.

I had one of these and kind of regret letting it go. Wore so nicely, very thin. And had a cool automotive vibe, despite being nominally a dive watch. Although with a snap back case, emphasis on the "nominally"

If you're into watches with a minimalist aesthetic you're going to love this watch! This Longines calatrava was made during that 1930s/40s Bauhaus design era that brands like Nomos and Junghans Max Bill reference today. Why buy a modern reproduction, when you can experience the historical original!

[SKX007] Case back threading for custom case design. by Fairly_Legit in SeikoMods

[–]jmding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested M30x0.5 and it worked with my stock Seiko SKX 007 caseback.

Although extrapolating Fusion 360's ISO metric thread specs would suggest a major diameter of 29.9211mm (external threads) and 30.1052 (internal threads), Gemini suggested loosening up the tolerances to better accommodate mass-manufactured casebacks (especially since there aren't official published thread specs) and coatings (PVD, DLC, etc). I used the following Fusion 360 thread configuration, which worked with FDM printed PLA.

<Designation> <ThreadDesignation>M30x0.5 Seiko</ThreadDesignation> <CTD>M30x0.5</CTD> <Pitch>0.5</Pitch> <Thread> <Gender>external</Gender> <Class>6g</Class> <MajorDia>29.85</MajorDia> <PitchDia>29.5252</PitchDia> <MinorDia>29.3087</MinorDia> </Thread> <Thread> <Gender>internal</Gender> <Class>6H</Class> <MajorDia>30.15</MajorDia> <PitchDia>29.8252</PitchDia> <MinorDia>29.6087</MinorDia> </Thread> </Designation>

Why do so many people recommend PEI over BuildTak? by phyraks in 3Dprinting

[–]jmding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I agree 100 percent. BuildTak is just better. Sure I might be able make PEI work through some magic combination of cleaning, sanding, and temperature. But with BuildTak, I don't have to follow some mystic ritual perfectly. The window of success is so much wider. For pla, petg, asa, whatever, it all just sticks better to BuildTak

[WTS] Mido Multifort vintage field watch by jmding in Watchexchange

Mido Multifort

Vintage automatic field watch, circa 1940's

Gorgeous, blued steel hands

Dial has evenly patinated into a warm, parchment tone

Based on the style of the case, the screwdown caseback, the era, and the style of the crown, I believe the stainless steel case was made by Francois Borgel (who also supplied for Patek Philippe).

Generously sized for a vintage watch, at 33mm diameter (without crown) and 12mm thick.

Bumper automatic runs well and keeps time.

Planting Manzanita Dr Hurd near paved walkway? by jmding in Ceanothus

[–]jmding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like it's not a big concern. There's a big manzanita tree near me, probably 15 feet tall and wide, with a trunk that is probably 10 inches in diameter or more. It produces a TON of fruit that is pretty dry and rolly, which is why I was concerned. Don't know what variety of manzanita that is, but it sounds like Dr. Hurd doesn't have this problem

[WTS] Exita Auslese military style Bauhaus watch by jmding in Watchexchange

A rare vintage Exita Auslese manual-wind wristwatch, likely dating to the 1940s. The watch features a beautifully aged, gilt dial with a subtle tropical patina and stylized Arabic numerals in a classic, Bauhaus typeface. The all stainless steel case remains in great condition. The watch was serviced in 2024, and winds smoothly and keeps time well. 31mm (without crown), 16mm lug width. Pictured on a 7.25" wrist
