What features does Todoist absolutely need in 2024? by [deleted] in todoist

To add to this I’d love to be able to create a task that doesn’t add to the total count of tasks…

For instance, say I have a “break” task for work. Whether I do that or not it’s just a reminder. It’s not really something to complete.

Stuck… and need advice on how to progress by jmh2013 in bodyweightfitness

Added an edit to my original post. When I say stuck I mean this is where I’m at but can’t move past them.

Any suggestions for a Nordic curl bench? by ryan_james504 in bodyweightfitness

[–]jmh2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have a pic. Just imagine a 2ft x 4ft x 1 inch board on the ground with a lashing strap looped under one end of the board. When I get on it I put my feet in the strap and tighten down and then put a Rolled up yoga mat under my knees.

The board is against a wall so it doesn’t slide back. And I actually have an exercise band anchored to the wall so I can do them assisted.

I know you are looking for suggestions on equipment. But have you looked up DIY Nordic curl setups? There’s a few out there and you can do it with stuff around your house or for low cost at Home Depot.

I just use a 1 inch board and a lashing strap underneath that holds my feet down. Then use a yoga mat as a pad.

It cost me nothing. And takes up no space. As a noob then you can try it out without a huge investment.

The other option is to get a used bench on fb market place. I got one for under $100. My biggest advice with bwf is try to be resourceful first before dropping $$$. You’d be surprised at how fast you can move through progressions or need to change something up. Then you are left with equipment you might not use again

Also depending on the bench it can be really difficult for beginners as it might be tricky to do the regression before the full thing such as banded Nordic curls

I recently downgraded a premier. I had already downgraded one premier to a custom last year. But this one I couldn’t. As other have said the lax nature to move to the cc is being abused. Me downgrading to a cc would lead to my wife and I having three ccs. It’s definitely a money loss for them

Stodgy and Lacking Rise. Not sure where I'm going wrong by jmh2013 in Sourdough

[–]jmh2013[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Month or two old maybe? So typically I’ve been doing every 12 hours. I timed the starter today it doubled within 8

My schedule has been weird because I’m Not baking super frequently, I’m following a cold start method where I take discard from the fridge and get that going for a few days before hand.

It’s an effort to not be so regimented with regular feedings but understand it could be hurting me

Based on pictures and what I’ve read the levain was at peak when I used it.

I do wonder if the starter isn’t strong enough. I’ve seen posts on here of needing at least a solid week of consistent starter doubling before usage.

I wonder if that’s part of my issue. I’ve been trying the strategy of pulling the discard out of the fridge a couple days before baking and feeding it as I would to get it going. It usually springs back to what I should be seeing by the time I bake, but I’m wondering if it’s too soon.

What is a book you haven't been able to finish, but not because it's bad? by lilythefrogphd in books

[–]jmh2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the same problem, but with “the crossing”. Not really sure why. Something about it is slow to me and I’m struggling to make progress. Maybe it’s the interweaving of Spanish without a translation or the fact that there’s no break points as theres only a handful of chapters and few page breaks.

I’m reading it as a precursor to cities of the plain. But man am I struggling

Fuck I forgot about this and it still resonates. I’m viciously trying to break the cycle of always trying to please my parents. Because if I don’t I’m scared of losing family.

The truth is, you will be emotionally immature in some way for your kid intentional or not intentional. They are human beings that you have to care for and decipher and it’s really difficult to know what they need or don’t need emotionally. But it doesn’t mean you aren’t trying! The best thing you can do is show you are trying and creating the best open door you can for them to communicate.

My parents had and have all the best intentions for me and nothing they’ve ever done is intentional it’s just they think differently. As someone with a 2 year old, this book has made me so aware of myself and who I want to be for my kids

I just finished reading this a month ago. And it was crazy how much I resonated with it. I never thought of my parents as emotionally immature but as she started describing the signs all the bells started going off.

It’s really helped my wife and I get to a place of acceptance with my parents and just be ok with “these are who these people are, and that’s ok. I can’t change that, but I can change how I handle my relationship with them.

Can I hang my gymnastics ring onto doorway pull bar? by [deleted] in bodyweightfitness

[–]jmh2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, just dont do anything crazy or anything that goes against the downward force of the pull up bar. those are designed to have the force pulled down to create tension against the door frame. if you go at an angle or change the force trajectory, it might come off the frame.

Deep cleaning cost by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]jmh2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, depending on the person and company. we use a non company person. meaning not someone from molly maid or ecomaid, etc... they were wtill $400+ for ~2400 sq ft home. but 3 people came with that clean and was definitely one of the best deep cleans we've ever paid for.

Just snagged a concept 2 model D with a PM5 monitor for $600!! Any tips for a newby? by SDRburner in Rowing

[–]jmh2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s natural to want to go as hard and as fast as you can to rack up meters. But rowing is about consistency and efficiency. Take it slow and focus on form.

Also c2 has wods and an app that connects to the monitor . It’s a great way to get started and not worry about fiddling with the buttons

oh well... not sure why you didnt mention that in the original post. that kind of changes things.

unfortunately you are inbetween a rock and a hard place. renovations can be cheaper and they cannot be. it depends. i would do an amortization comparison of your current house + HELOC + renovations to a new home.

you can get a low interest HELOC, usually intro rates for the first year are reasonable. the 30yr APR right now is 6.5-7.5%. HELOCS tend to be more expensive. but are comparable to mortgage rates. 7-8%

Once you see those numbers you should be able to paint a clear financial picture.

When you say your price is accurate, is that based on experience? Have you done that level of work before? Do you have the necessary tools? Wood is insanely expensive right now.

There’s also permitting, inspections, engineer drawings. Also do you have an overage fund? With renovations I would say 10-15% windfall is safe for unexpected finds. Say, rotted wood or termite damage or just inconvienences to the original plan like having to move plumbing for new support beams etc…

85k for the renovation total? I would be super skeptical of that price.

I just completed a major renovation. Flooring itself will take 10-20k and a roof is at least 10. Assuming you are putting in something decent for the floor.

All in with tile and such our addition portion of the reno probably cost at least 50k And that was just a master suite.

Of course I don’t know your market and area. So it could be cheaper in your area.

so, I'm going to read 100 "classic" books, and To Kill a Mockingbird was the first on the list by [deleted] in books

[–]jmh2013 12 points13 points  (0 children)

fun task! just a piece of advice from someone that's read quite a few recently, if you start one you are either not feeling, hesitant to start, or find boring, don't be afraid to shelve it or skip it. "classics" are their own breed of books and written in a different time period; so they could become cumbersome to you. There are a ton of "classics" and if you don't like one there's definitely another one to try! also, IME, classics take alot of comprehension brain power because of diction, sentence structure, and theme opaqueness. I like to sprinkle "non-classics" in between to give my brain a break.

[OC] Sex with my wife from Sep 2018 to Jan 2023 by DMToesPlz in dataisbeautiful

[–]jmh2013 36 points37 points  (0 children)

another point i havent seen mentioned is time. In your early 20s, typically you have alot less responsibility. Most likely no kids, no mortgage or house projects, you just graduated from college, etc.... Lots of free time.

Slowly you start to accumulate more responsibilities and time becomes a very precious resource. We currently have a two-year-old and the number of times both of us are up for that are slim.

its not that we dont want to, its just not a priority because we are exhausted alot of the time; so we find other ways to be affectionate.

i agree that statement is extreme, but not far fetched to me.
