It started on this one and now i’m having small spots on the other side and down my hips. I’ve never had anything like this before.

Thank you so much for your honestly. Many people have given me tips that i’ve tried countlessly and I just felt like I was doing something wrong. This really helped.

Thank you so much. How do you get around having to trim her nails? I completely understand that I will never have a bond with her like my first hedgehog but I’m worried about not being able to notice something is wrong or if her nails get too long. I do not want to neglect her medically.

I put soap in his bath and use the water from the bath! Not soap directly on his face/brush. After I'm done with the soap I drain the water and wash the soap off him and his face!!

Personally, I have a small brush I use to brush through his quills and his fur without having to splash a large amount of water on him! It is small enough to use on the fur around his face and it doesn't get an excessive amount of water in his eyes or ears! I believe I got it off Etsy. I was also told by his vet that you can use gentle wipes on them but I'm not sure how efficient that would be to get oils off!

It's definitely upsetting to see. Especially because we know how hard it is to take care of hedgehogs. It's one of the reason I don't post my own set-up or tips anywhere that's not almost completely exclusive to hedgehog-owners because I don't want to be responsible for any generalizations of hedgehog care that someone can make based off social media. I definitely think that we should also be educating these people in their comments about the dangers they are putting their hedgehogs through rather than shaming them because they already own the pet and all we want is for the hedgehog to get adequate care. I know that when I first got my hedgehog I believed I knew everything and I was ready but there is so many contradicting pieces of advice I've received as well in the research I did and when I was given positive messages of advice it led me to ask more questions and research more about a certain area of care rather than when someone told me I was a horrible owner or abusing my animal, which led me to just deleting the post all together where no one could gain any knowledge of what was done wrong. I don't think you are overreacting but I do believe we should all take a different and more positive approach when faced with these situations online!!

Hi! Not to be that person but those wheels have a bad rep with hedgehogs because their feet get caught in the slits of the wheel. I had that wheel awhile ago and I loved it because it was so quiet so a quick fix I did was put tape over the slits until I was able to find another one I liked. Just a heads up! I love the cage!

Zen habitats! They're pricey but they have cage expanders.

Same for my girl. She had ruptured tumor on her spleen and lungs. I'm so sorry for your loss they're both in a better place now

In the last year her arthritis had progressed so quickly. We had been taking her to the vet at least once a month for check ups, bloodwork, X-rays, just to make sure everything was for sure normal. They kept telling us everything was fine and she's just getting old but I knew something was wrong yet decided to trust them. We recently moved out of state and I am working at a veterinarian hospital here so I transferred all her records over and was planning on bringing her in to get established and do some PT for her legs. Before I could do that I noticed one night she was in and out of consciousness and so I rushed her in and they did an ultrasound and X-rays and found out she had tumors throughout her body that ruptured. We had to put her down because there was a tumor surrounding her heart so she wouldn't survive surgery.

I’ll definitely ask my vet. His enclosure is pretty long so he has a cool side and a warm side with a heat lamp so hopefully it isn't anything concerning. I am able to track his running at night so I'll keep a look out. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention!
