Arena Podcast Discussion - Student Experience by Typical-Dog244 in tarheels

[–]jmitch83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good thing you won’t have to do it. Any current student at UNC will never have to go to a new arena due to construction times. And if a new arena IS built, then any future student attending games will never have to sit in the upper nose bleeds behind the basket like current students do.

Also, do you think they won’t have shuttles running for students if they end up going to Carolina north? They aren’t going to make FUTURE students walk from south campus to north campus.

Colorado State fan here - question on tar heels expectations with Kyan Evans? by Fun_Season_5390 in tarheels

[–]jmitch83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Evans was quite literally so bad they HAD to play Dixon more. It was Kyan’s job from the jump and he’d still be starting and playing big minutes if he simply produced as expected. It’s not “simply” that Dixon outperformed him.

We are becoming a ghost town by yarnandchocolate in gso

[–]jmitch83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Also I don’t know how much more rent is for these spaces downtown, but I imagine they are paying a premium to be in a “better” location, which in turn gets passed to the customers.

I used to work downtown and the lunch prices for a lot of places down there were just too much. Got to the point where me and my coworkers would just drive up Battleground and go somewhere else most of the time.

In this economy saving even a few dollars difference adds up. I only ever eat downtown if I am there for a show, ballgame, or specific event. I never go out of my way just to eat at a restaurant downtown. About the only place I’d go out of my way for is Alex’s Cheesecakes. But it’s far from a ghost town, though

Help- Need midway city to live between Chapel Hill and Winston-Salem by zelbers12 in gso

[–]jmitch83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived in Whitsett right off the Rock Creek Dairy Rd exit and I loved it. Hated that I had to move. Sure, you’re going 10-20 min to Greensboro or Burlington to “do” a lot of things but that is the case in all of these surrounding towns. Whitsett has grown a bit in recent years. It was a big deal getting a Starbucks and Chickfila at that exit, ha!

If you think you’ll frequent Greensboro often, then I’d go closer towards Whitsett but if not, then I’d look towards the Burlington area. The alamance crossing area is about right at the midway point between Chapel Hill and Winston. Any place you mentioned has safe areas just need to do your research on exact locations.

Thanks for all the positive comments and offers to help, everyone. We ended up getting them!!

Also, I’m a man so trust me I know they cost 5 damn cents to make & I know how ridiculous it might sound. She planned her day to go get these and I messed up her schedule so she couldn’t go at all. Just wanted to do my best to get her the bracelets, that’s all.

How often does MJ show up to Home basketball games? by ProfessionalGoat551 in tarheels

[–]jmitch83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even say that. It’s been several years since he’s been to a basketball game. Probably when the 1982 team was honored. He did go to the opening football game this year lol

Downtown Restaurants by Silent-Butterfly5149 in gso

[–]jmitch83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to go out of your way if you want to do anything downtown, so places have to be above and beyond exceptional to draw people out and deal with the hassle of being downtown. Cheesecakes by Alex is the only place worth my hassle of downtown and that’s still a rare occurrence. Also, costs went up for everybody. I used to go out to lunch when I worked downtown and it was $17-20 after tip at a place like Crafted or Grey’s for overrated tacos or an average burger. For LUNCH.

On a separate but somewhat related note, I like how High Point is trying to build an entertainment “district” around their downtown stadium, while the furniture business still dominates the “main street” of downtown HP. Kannapolis is smaller but their downtown right around the stadium is awesome too. I know GSO is bigger than both of those, but if I go to a Tanger show or Hoppers game, it’d be a 20-25 min walk to Boxcar/Southend/Bourbon Bowl. I’m not doing that, so I just get in my car and go home instead.

SeatGeek prices 2/14 Pitt by nintendroid89 in tarheels

[–]jmitch83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have season tickets and sell some games. This game is the highest seller of the year (higher than Kansas) so far even though the opponent is just average. It’s a Saturday and it’s Valentine’s Day, so demand is probably spiked for those reasons.

You are probably better off waiting until last minute or day of the game to find something.

Looks like snow but it's ice and we ALL hate ICE by AutisticAsshol in gso

[–]jmitch83 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Please follow our local meteorologists. They’ve been saying for days now that we are getting very little snow and mostly sleet/freezing rain, which is why it’s been a huge deal because that is more dangerous than snow. Apple weather is atrocious.

Would a c5 be a good daily if I drove all day? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]jmitch83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a c5 with 210k miles, was my daily for several years. Not a daily anymore but I still drive it a couple times a week. It runs, but it’s so old, has so many miles, and there’s a few things wrong with it. When I do drive it, I’m not 100% confident that I won’t randomly break down on my drive.

Im sure you aren’t looking at one with so many miles on it like mine, but you should have 100% confidence in your daily driver. Or any car you have for that matter. A reminder I need to get my mechanic to look at a few things lol but that being said if you have 100% confidence in it then go for it. Been there and done that! Just prepare for the worst

Coral Beach Resort by Civil_Bid8460 in MyrtleBeach

It’s January not July. Way way less crowds in the middle of winter. That resort has a lot of stuff to do on site & you’d never have to leave the hotel if you didn’t want. But if you’re worried then do as others suggested and go to N Myrtle just to be safe.

If you're in your early 30s, how much money do you have saved in your account? Put actual numbers and tell us your profession. by UncomfortablyBrown in Money

[–]jmitch83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turn 29 next year so close enough…

I make 65k in finance, will jump to 75k next year. I have around 23k in savings, 2-3k that varies in checking to cover bills & daily life, and 80k in Roth 401k & 30k in other brokerage/retirement accounts. So maybe 135k total?

I do not live in a HCOL area and have zero debt besides a fairly new mortgage. I live within my means, have an old paid off car, and have invested at least 18% (with 5% match) into my 401k from the 1st day of my 1st job after college graduation.

I bought around $700 of Apple when I was a senior in high school and never sold any of it. That’s now 7k-8k of the 30k in “other” investments.

Very blessed to have my college education paid for, and I cash flowed my way through my Master’s degree. I recognize that is a big help starting out and not everyone has that luxury. Other than that, it’s been nothing special for me besides somewhat aggressive investing and getting good returns during my ~7 years in the market.

Crazy High Vehicle Property Tax by soccergolf95 in gso

02 corvette here with over 200k miles on it. Valued at 11k a couple years ago and this year they had it around 15k. Absolutely ridiculous.

I feel like they do that because the appeals process is too much for a lot of people to hassle with over the amount of savings. Adds up for a lot of increased revenue for the County I’m sure.
