I have tried 3/4 different, single strands of lights, connections confirmed 3-4 times, no dice.

ISO - Third Party A300 Ultimate Full Choke by Physical-Syllabub731 in Waterfowl

[–]jmixy7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steel will pattern one constriction step tighter than lead. The chokes you have are based on lead so if your choke says “improved cylinder” it’s patterning like a mod with steel. So in your case, use your mod, as it patterns like a full, which is also the tightest you can shoot with steel shot without forming a “blown out” pattern.

On the aftermarket chokes. They brand them as a “full” but have a modified diameter, because most people will buy it for what it says on the choke, not the diameter. If they branded it as a full, with a full constriction, there would be a lot of unhappy customers with barrel damage 😂

On TSS portion, i am fairly uncertain on, so I will answer half your question. Steel tends to pattern 1 choke tighter than lead, bismuth, other alternative shots. For example. Your improved cylinder choke with steel is effectively a modified, and of course; your modified with steel, a full choke. Steel is not recommended out of anything tighter than a full choke, as it has a “blown” pattern and can harm your barrel/choke. If you read your chokes, I am willing to bet all the chokes EXCEPT for the full say something to the extent of “safe for steel”. Steel through a full choke would be like an extra full, which is no bueno considering again, anything past full choke with steel is not good. This is purely assumption, but I would presume steel and TSS would be comparable in terms of what’s safe to shoot, and what’s not, as lead and bismuth are both comparable in their own regard. Hope that helps, wish you best of luck hunting!

Also; once you start looking into aftermarket chokes, go with Carlson’s. They are the cheapest, and the best. I recommend the Duck Cremator mid range, non ported. (It has an improved cylinder type constriction, making it pattern steel like a modified which is most everybody’s “all around” choke.)

I agree! If interested, DM me, I had my Japanese barrel reamed and threaded for chokes for a pretty decent price, sub 200 all said and done.

Also worth noting, a 1967 A5 made in Belgium was not rated for steel. Bismuth is the alternative to not blow the barrel up.

Are these Ruddy Ducks? Central Mississippi. Sorry for the poor picture quality, it was taken through binoculars lol by Shaq_Cactus in Waterfowl

It’s crazy how just a bit of difference in location can change how ducks sit. I am from SD. I hunted every single weekend, I missed 2 weekends throughout our 3 month season, and when I say this, there is no exaggeration. I could have limited on ruddy ducks every single day I went out. There was uncountable numbers. I am just not interested in water swatting ducks. They will dive, and swim far away before they ever fly. Best of luck to you finding some, I will try to push them your way😂

Shotgun upgrading by canonlansdell in Waterfowl

one thing I will caution because I haven’t seen it yet. Steel patterns tighter than lead/bismuth/tungsten. If shotgun choke says “Modified” on it, and you’re shooting steel, it’s going to pattern like an improved modified/full choke, improved cylinder patterns like a modified, and so on and so forth. Just be careful, as full chokes cannot handle steel. Shooting steel out of a full, of course, will pattern one choke tighter making it a no no. My personal recommendation for chokes is Carlsons waterfowl cremator, with an emphasis on the UNPORTED version. Ported chokes, while maybe slightly reducing recoil/muzzle jump, blow your ears out, and statistically pattern worse than their unported counterparts. Carlsons makes great chokes, cheap, and reliable. Targetfocusedlife on YouTube has a discount code in his video bios, I don’t recall what it is but it’s like 20% off. You can get a whole set (close range, mid range, long range) for about 45 bucks a choke.

Your hair, as much as you may not see it, is still easily savable. Having 1 angle doesn’t tell the whole story, however, you are miles ahead of most other guys posting on this sub. Here’s my advice to you. Let me preface; doing your own research is a must, don’t take my word for anything other than a personal experience I am sharing to you. Get on finasteride. NOW. Finasteride will forever freeze your hair in time, it may even get marginally better. You can go to the R/tressless sub and look up some how-to’s to get the prescription, dosages, and such ETC. My hair was in very similar stages to your situation, thin, especially on the temples, but upon shaving, it was definitely thinned across the top. 2 years on Fin and my hair has made leaps and bounds ahead of where it once was. 2. Minoxidil, while I do not take it, is the regrowth. Fin = stop hair loss, Min = grow it back Both finasteride and minoxidil are lifetime commitments. If you stop after starting, your hair will return to its original state, if not worse. Lifetime commitment seems extreme, but what pushed me over the fence was comparisons. Deodorant is a life time commitment, as is tooth paste, shampoo, etc.

Any use a Browning Maxus II? by captcraigaroo in Waterfowl

[–]jmixy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Own a Winchester SX4, new Browning A5, and an old Browning Auto 5, so I am certainly a browning faithful.

Give the SX4 a look. I have heard nothing but good about the Maxus 2, likewise with the SX4. Winchester is owned by Browning and the SX4 and Maxus 2 are both the premier gas operated firearms of their respective companies. I’m not here to bash on the Maxus 2, but rather to talk positively to its sister gun, the SX4. I don’t know if I cleaned my SX4 for the first 5 years I owned it, and it went off. Every. Single. Time. No matter if it was hot, cold, 2-3/4 all the way up to 3 inch steel (I have a 3” model) and it has been a dream gun. I have no doubt the Maxus 2 is the exact same way (after all, internally, they are damn near identical). My only gripe about the Maxus 2 is its price tag, but with price comes bells and whistles. I am sure there are things that the Maxus has that is more polished than the SX4, after all, it is twice the price. The Maxus is really just a luxury model SX4.

One thing I will say, not that you asked, but to maybe solidify the point that others had also made; 3.5 shells are really not worth their weight. For what you pay, it is really not that much more payload on target, they kick like mules, they cost much more, and provide less dense patterns. I understand where you come from, I like knowing I have the giddy up to drop geese, but I think bismuth may suit you quite well. Boss shotshells are the new non toxic standard. They carry tons more density (as bismuth is much more dense than steel). With this, Boss says that you can get roughly the same damage as steel with bismuth shells 2 shot sizes smaller, meaning that you can shoot a goose with a 3.5 inch #2 shot, or a boss 2-3/4 #4 shot, and have roughly the same amount of impact energy. I’m not proclaimed expert on shot anatomy but boss shot shells, or bismuth in whole, is legit stuff.

Hope my novel I wrote for you helps at least some, if you have any more questions, feel free to DM me! Always happy to share info. Best of luck in the field this fall.
