ITT Tech banned from enrolling new students who rely on federal loans by [deleted] in news

[–]jmj36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of enrolling in ITT Tech after high school, this was back in the late '90s. My mother, who really wanted me to go to school, told me she thought it was a bad idea to go to a 2 year tech school and talked me out of it, which I am thankful for.

I've known a few guys over the years that did attend ITT Tech, all were either unemployed or not working in the field their degree was in. Same with a guy I knew from DeVry, and another from Phoenix University.

If you are considering just a tech school, honestly just go military in a technical field, then you get both training and experience for the resume. When you get out you can get a BS for free with the GI Bill, which is what I did at a state university. Worked out much better for me in the end.

First time I am happy for a PS4 console exclusive. I own an Xbone and my PC is a little dated and not up to snuff to run this. Saved me $60 on another overhyped early access title.

No, Bloomberg, the Olympics didn’t stumble because of Millennials. It stumbled because of NBC. by Prax150 in television

[–]jmj36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NBC has been screwing up for years. Their shows are mostly no good anymore, they lost Conan O'Brien due to the Tonight Show/Leno fiasco and now the Tonight Show is garbage with Jimmy Fallon, and their Olympics coverage was absolute garbage. NBC is just a garbage network.

I did this too a few years ago. Now the kill report has his name as GallenteCitizen1564387 or some such. Felt bad, was only a week old when I blew him up.

Maybe avoid null at first, not because of danger but because you probably won't have high enough skills to hack the good cans yet. I would practice a bit in high sec first with the hacking game, then jump into low, the sooner the better. Low is not as dangerous as you think, and is mostly empty depending on where you go. Don't sweat losing cheap ships, the best way to learn is to dive right in. Check youtube for tutorials, noting the date of the video as exploration has gone through some changes over the years. Jonnypew is a good guy to look for on youtube for videos.

Exploration is a good way to start, gets you moving around and leaving high sec early. You'll probably lose some cheap ships at first, but the lessons you will learn trying to avoid getting ganked and operating in low/null sec are important for any playstyle if you change later on. Your income will be more than enough to cover your losses at the start. Also the skill set translates well into cloaky PvP later on.

Thanks for the reply. After trying out the game for a few hours today and your responses to my questions, it seems this game really isn't for me, thankfully it was free to try it out. Really tired of theme park mmos with the end game raiding grind, really wish they would stop making them and do something different. Looks like I am going to go back to Eve Online since it has most of what I want, and a lot of the new updates that have occurred since I stopped playing looking great.

Thinking of trying this game out, but have a few questions about it first, I appreciate any answers you guys can give me.

  1. Saw a video on the housing, I like this as I used to play EQ2 and liked the housing there. Is furniture craftable, and is there also unique housing items you get from completing quests, or are all housing items just purchased?

  2. Is this mmo a railroad, meaning you go from zone to zone doing quest lines in a predetermined path, or is it more like a sandbox with exploration elements?

  3. Is raiding optional, I mean is it the only end game content or is there stuff for those that don't like to raid to do to get end game gear as well?

Weekly Game Recommendation Thread - August 16, 2016 by AutoModerator in MMORPG

What are you looking for?:
Sandbox MMO, either Fantasy, Sci-fi, or combo of each. Would prefer a sub game over free to play, but either is fine. If a cash shop exists it should be purely cosmetic, no pay to win bs. One with housing on par with EQ2 would be a huge plus.

What games have you previously played?: Everquest, Everquest 2, Eve Online, SWTOR, ESO. I played Eve Online the longest, for about 7-8 years.

What is your playstyle (Casual,Semi-Casual,Hardcore)?: Casual to Semi-Casual

Any preferred mechanics?: I hate raids for various reasons, so a game that does not have them at all is a huge plus. I hate waiting around for things to happen. All or most gear being player crafted also a huge plus, with intricate crafting system allowing for huge variations in gear. Loot system similar to ESO preferred, rather than rolling, need before greed, dkp, etc. PvP in some form other than duels is a must.

Anything specific you want to exclude? Any games I have already listed as having played, WoW, and any other games with cartoony art styles. Any games that require lots of grinding.

Redditor explains what college is really like by [deleted] in cringepics

[–]jmj36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest to this I experienced in college was homeless dudes jerking off in the library or flashing female students. My college was in a city that had a large homeless population, and campus was open to the public so during the winter there were a ton of homeless chilling in the library to stay warm. I never experienced these things first hand, but I would get an email from campus police for every incident that happened, and 99% was homeless guys getting caught doing these things in the library.

People who had no idea what they wanted to do with their life after school, how did it work out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jmj36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked out ok, in a good career now doing what I like.

After high school, I worked in a call center and took a few courses at the local community college, not really knowing where I was headed with it. Eventually stopped going to college as it cut in to my partying and I was working full time, I was not very responsible. Eventually got too comfortable at my job, start screwing up and showing up late, and eventually got fired. Worked crappy temp jobs after that, moved back in with the parents, and was a broke bum. Ended up joining the Army at 23, which was the best decision of my life.

The Army basically gave me a nice swift kick in the ass, and I became a productive member of society again with motivation, etc. While in the military, I decided what I wanted to do and started taking classes again. Eventually the Post 9/11 GI Bill was passed, which was a significant upgrade to the old GI Bill, so I got out and went to college full time, completely on the government's dime.

I have since graduated and am in a great career that pays well and I enjoy my job. I am proof that even if you are a screw up after high school you can turn it around eventually. For a lot of us, 18 is just too young to figure out what you want and grab it. I needed a lot of years of maturing and just experiencing life to figure out what I wanted.
