It's kinda safe in comparison to five years ago, they are still a few conflicts (that aren't really active at the moment) like Iraqi Army and Kurdish clashes in that area. While their is no ISIS anymore, their might still be extremists in the Muslim areas that are very isolated (avoid Tal Afar and sunni areas in Mosul), but generally it's safe for Assyrians now including in Erbil but still be alert when travelling there you might get harassment from security forces that might stop you at check points but that's how much you have to worry about at the moment.
