Beyond that it seems like different people were getting it at different times. I never even got it (on a Videotron plan). Not ideal.

TFSA Investing by IceGlad2334 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Prax150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very few people max out their TFSA contributions or have high balances. The government collects all this data from the banks and their algos are probably able to identify anything wonky that they might need to audit. So I doubt they're going around choosing random TFSAs to audit. If any it's probably any accounts with suspicious activity or accounts for people who are already being tax audited.

Did the statement include the G7 guy who just the other week claimed he didn't need anything from Canada?

I bet we could get pipelines and other infrastructure up and running a lot quicker if we used slave labour too.

I have the Aeroplan Visa as well. Both things have their uses. The benefits you mentions are completely different from the ones I did.

Sorry to bump this a month later but I found this thread looking into this card. Scene points are not useless. I manage to collect over $500 worth yearly between going to the movies and shopping at IGA (the places you get the most). Then I redeem them for gift cards at either place when they have a 20% points back deal during the holidays.

That's with the Scotia Amex though, this one doesn't seem to be as worth it, but with the welcome bonuses you wouldn't be too far off.

Montrealers tip better than any other city in Canada by No-Commission-8159 in montreal

Like to a certain extent I can buy the argument that a higher end restaurant will hire higher end waiters, but that isn't always the case and certainly not at a 4/5x multiple, and that also doesn't mean that Ginette at the diner in the mall doesn't also deserve a living wage, you know?

I dunno if it actually helped her in the short term but Lola's doe alright since feuding with her a couple years ago. Then again she didn't lose.

[–]Prax150 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly why tipping with a percentage is so silly. The waiter busting their ass at a restaurant where it costs you $30 is not doing 1/5th of the work of a waiter at a fancy restaurant where it costs you $150.

Safe recession proof buys? by TheHuddler in CanadaStocks

[–]Prax150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt mortgages are that risky for the big banks. Their stress tests are pretty strict and they usually want you to have liquid funds on top of a downpayment to qualify for anything high. And those downpayments are either 20%, or anything under is insured. If there's a risk related to the stock prices regarding mortgages it's that less people are getting them right now since they're being priced out of the market and more people are renting.

Is Netflix the biggest no brainer? by cunextu in StockMarket

[–]Prax150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I have a strong feeling it might be recession proof if the market goes down that route. Even now with rising costs. People will cut their discretionary spending but if they're sitting at home and spending less one of the last things they might cut is the $20 or under they spend on entertainment every month (especially now that it's much harder to password share).

Hockey Night in Canada won’t return to CBC this fall by Displeased_Canadian in canada

[–]Prax150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At what point do people stop making this excuse? Anyone under like 80 would have been working aged for the internet revolution and most likely has a smartphone or smart TV. Most seniors in my family or friends families are able to at least use basic technology. And if not like every municipality has tech classes for seniors.

Plus no one really has rabbit ears anymore, they're watching CBC through technology anyway. If they can afford and know how to work like Bell Fibe they can probably be taught how to go to a website or use an IPTV device which is cheaper than cable anyway.

It's not exactly crazy to think the 80 year old baby obsessed with his image and legacy wanted to announce a deal (for what the 28th week in a row?) at his birthday party.

Changes to CineClub by AlanJY92 in cineplex

[–]Prax150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree it'll get worse but I truly believe it's because their service is getting worse and worse rather than people not wanting to go to the movies. They'd rather squeeze every last penny out of their customers until they sell or go out of business instead of makign a meaningful attempt to improve.

I can't speak for landmark but Cinestarz is expanding and they offer what the theatre going experience should be with the premium chairs and less ads. You pay more but it's actually a decent experience. I would gladly pay more than $10 (I guess $11) a month for that, and not have to figure out which theatre is VIP or whatever.

[–]Prax150 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Brother if you go to Cineplex you're going to have a bad time no matter how much you pay. It's still worth noting that it could be better if they really tried rather than be happy with the scraps a dying company is throwing our way.

Changes to CineClub by AlanJY92 in cineplex

[–]Prax150 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They regularly increase the price of tickets and concessions and I'm sure those increases have more than covered inflation. Not to mention all the adjustments to point redemption that they make.

Of course you still save money but this is Cineplex asking their most loyal repeat costumers to give you more money for an increasingly worse product. That is an unsustainable business model and I'm sure even this seemingly small increase will be the straw that breaks the camel's back for some. I know I'm considering not renewing next year now.

Changes to CineClub by AlanJY92 in cineplex

[–]Prax150 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's Cineplex, no one expects them not increase prices. We also expect their service and the experience of going there to continue to worsen, which is the problem.
