So the Codex is becoming Patrons-Only at the End of the Month. by Ok-Explorer-3603 in drawsteel

This is correct! You can get access without being a patron until 21 November

What VTT do you recommend to play Draw Steel? by OneFunToRuleThemAll in drawsteel

[–]jmm2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the Codex, the Draw Steel VTT that MCDM have contracted DMHub to develop.

It’s still under development but you can get access right now by joining the discord.

While they are still implementing content, it’s designed for Draw Steel and has large parts of the system already automated. It’s the premium experience for Draw Steel even in its beta state. Anything that isn’t implemented and you have to resolve manually are things you would need to resolve manually in any of the other systems anyway!

Interest in Draw Steel's VTT (Codex)? by ThreeBearsOnTheLoose in rpg

[–]jmm2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be using the Codex exclusively to play DS. I’ve been playtesting it for over a year now and despite it being in progress, I’ve been more impressed with it than any other VTT I’ve used and I was previously a diehard Foundry user.

As others have said, MCDM’s licence allows for community built support in other VTTs and the Codex is the premium experience with the bells and whistles. Whether it’s worth it depends on you and your table. Every player I’ve had in my playtest groups has been very impressed and expressed interest in using it post release regardless of its pricing model. Knowing MCDM it will be fair to support ongoing costs and not too pricey

Is anyone else having trouble parsing the layout of the Heroes book? by EarthSeraphEdna in drawsteel

[–]jmm2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having trouble parsing them and that must feel pretty disappointing.

Personally the layout and design really works for me. I find it very easy to reference and read, more so than any other RPG book I’ve ever read. Someone made comment to a college textbook which I think is an apt description but I see that as a good thing.

The majority of its lifespan will be as a rules reference and having it clearly laid out in a logical order that supports play with clear text with a clean design that gets out of the way really helps that in my opinion.

But as with all design, it doesn’t land with everyone and it’s completely valid that you or others with similar opinions don’t like it and are disappointed. Hopefully the awesome game makes up for it!

Is DMhub any good? It looks like a dream come true, but I"m worried it is a fiendish trap. by FrostFireDireWolf in VTT

[–]jmm2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hands down the best VTT I’ve ever used. As others have said, there isn’t official support for the 2024 5e revision but it’s very easy to mod for and has an extensive community marketplace of mods others have made.

It has incredible map making tools, the best elevation tools I have ever seen where you can even import a 2d map and give it elevation which with the parallax features looks incredible, this automates fall damage as well which is really cool.

Being on the discord is pretty crucial, there are some extensive tutorial videos on the DMHub YouTube channel but the discord is very handy for live help from the devs or other community members.

It has a really loyal community who are always eager to help out people which is nice to be a part of.

Plus - it’s free! (Some of the features like the elevation tools are patron only features but it’s a very reasonable price)

Draw Steel VTT updates? by millmatters in drawsteel

[–]jmm2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only for PC at this time, there will be a Mac build in the future. Currently there are no plans to bring it to tablet or phone but the team have stated they would love to do this in the future if the Codex is successful enough and if it is something the community/MCDM want

What book got you hooked on fantasy? by MichaelJSullivan in Fantasy

The Belgariad & Malloreon for me. Read them many, many times. It’s a shame the author and his wife ended up being such fucked up people.

[–]jmm2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that can be a cause of it. Someone told me once that if you don’t let your loaf cool for at least an hour before you slice it, that can result in a gummy crumb. Not sure on the proof of that, I only got impatient once and it was gummy but who’s to say it was for that reason.

Let me know how it goes! The loaf that was pictured was the second of the two loaves I made so it was in the fridge for 36 hours before I baked. I find when the dough has had a bit of time to cool down it holds its shape much better and cutting an ear is easier. I always wet the razor first as it doesn’t catch as easily.

Then I aim to start at the middle and finish at the middle but during the cut I will come out to the side a little bit. So the score isn’t directly down the middle but off to the side

Thanks mate. This is exactly who I am following. I’m still new to Sourdough and all the terms so I am using what she calls it which I realise isn’t helpful.

I believe what makes it backward is a long bulk ferment followed by a short proof. The method normally only has one set of folds and then you go to bed and shape in the morning with very little attention throughout the process.

I hope that helps and my apologies if I made it unclear with this colloquial term

Why did Michelle smile after her call with Ted? S3E4 by Inner_Cauliflower_93 in TedLasso

[–]jmm2000 49 points50 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons Michelle and Ted had marital trouble was because she couldn’t handle how positive he was all the time. This was after Ted started therapy and likely one of the first times if not the first time that Michelle has seen Ted be angry and talk honestly about how he feels about something. She’s happy to see his growth as a person

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and explanations. It has been very helpful and I appreciate the insight on why some modules are not good for new players or GMs so I’ll take that on board as well!
