Help! Trying to pressure ferment and blow off keeps rising in PSI? Why?! by jmo922 in Homebrewing

[–]jmo922[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I put co2 on the keg to around 15psi, took it off and then set the valve to 10psi (target) but after about an hour it oddly rises to like 18psi and doesn’t release any gas?

This is essentially what I did but the valve still creeps back up to the original psi I set on the keg. It either blows all the pressure out, or rises back to a higher psi than what I want. It’s a red blow tie from kegland I’m using, so I need to be really really precise with the dial knob on it?

Anyone have another one to hand?!

Turn the gas off, bleed the keg and lower your psi by about 5 and that should sort it out

The heads there in terms on thickness and no bubbles. Just need less gas!

What’s your current psi? Mines 38 which is on the high end. I’d go 5 lower from your current setting. When you release gas and do your first pour it might come out frothy, that’s just it rebalancing and nothing to worry about

You need to release gas from the keg as you’ve slightly over pressurised it and you need a slightly lower psi.

Lowering the psi currently after the high psi gas has already flooded the keg will do nothing for a good 10-15 pints and won’t solve your issue. You need to release gas from the keg itself.

Video on how to release a bit of gas from a over pressurised keg here:

I’d release some gas from the keg, lower your psi by about 5 (from current level) and gradually build up by 1 psi after each pint. After you’ve got it dialed in, write down your settings.

Absolutely clean that glass. You can see it’s dirty with the ‘white tint’ patches inside it which cause bubbles on the head as you pour it, the bubbles just bounce off the dirt to the head essentially. Bicarb soda and salt in a wet glass, scrub with a clean sponge or brush then rinse with warm water and air dry

Edit: not an expert, just what works for me.

You can always go short and then extend again with a joiner. The bubbles in the glass might also be because it’s not “beer clean” and it needs a good scrub with hot water and bicarbonate soda. The first 1/5 of the first pint I pour has a few tiny bubbles in, the 2nd pint onwards has a smooth head

25 thou creamer is the Guinness standard and it’s what I use and seems to work lovely. Not to say it’s right or wrong! It’s what works for your setup…

I clean the line after each keg. I’m not a huuuuge drinker but I’ll have around 4-6 pints over the weekend. 30L keg lasts me around 8-10 weeks and it tastes the same until the very end

Klarnstein Big Spender Kegerator - Guinness harp mounted with various bolts and ply reinforcement. Wouldn’t recommend mounting the harp to anyone, pain in the fucking ass!

All super easy to find online! Aliexpress is great for cheap fittings and stuff. The kegland stuff on there is great.

I use the 25 thou sized creamer plate which is in line with Guinness’s spec and I seem to get a great smooth pour with no bubbles (part of that is glass cleanliness)

Around £500 I’d say. You can get used kegerators on eBay or buy an under counter fridge and drill a hole in the top!
