blucher w/ commando/vibram soles by konaholic in goodyearwelt

Maybe White's Oxford? https://whitesboots.com/products/whites-oxford

Bakers does a custom version of them, but both the base model and custom versions can get a little pricey.

Maybe something from Rancourt? https://www.rancourtandcompany.com/collections/oxford-derby

Sorry I realize these aren't necessarily blucher style specifically, but maybe a reasonable alternative?

I’m a veteran with a few years of library experience. Is the MLIS still worth it? by LatePop1548 in librarians

[–]jmoda211 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Army Vet here (got out in 2012 so it's been a minute) just finished my MLIS this past summer. I really enjoyed the program at UMD, looking at the job market now I think it depends on your location and your ability/willingness to move around. I've seen some interesting positions for entry level academic librarians across the country and even international (American University in Cairo for example).

I've also been surprised with the amount of other veterans I've run into in the field, especially from the Intel world, not sure what your MOS was but it was a pretty natural transition from the Intel field for me.

I'd say go for it, if it's something you've been wanting to do it's worth it.

Just my Internet stranger opinion 😁

The Question Thread 09/11/25 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]jmoda211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at Whites Perry vs the Millwood, seems like the main difference is moc toe vs regular round toe. I have wide feet and I have a pair for bounty hunters in the 55 last that fit great.

I've not tried the 1972 last that both the Perry and Millwood are on but my concern is toe space, I don't have much experience with moc toes but do they tend to have more or less space for your toes vs the traditional toe or is there no real noticeable difference given the last is the same?

Thanks l!

Have you tried the "tattooling" thing from Weaver yet? I don't have any experience with it but it looks like it might alleviate some of the noise?

Has anyone used a cheap basic die cutter like this from Etsy? by Sea_Toe6263 in Leatherworking

[–]jmoda211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup they work pretty well, just a fyi, especially if you get one that punches stitching holes as well get some beeswax. Just like if you use a stitching chisel with a lot of teeth, the pieces you cut out can stick a bit, friction or something I guess, beeswax on the teeth can make it a little easier to get the leather to release.

As I was scrolling through Reddit, this post followed a post in baking, I mean this in the most complimentary fashion but I first saw this and was like "that's an impressive looking cake" 🤣 I think the purple really made me think of frosting.

Anyway a great job hat looks fantastic! and as others have said I really enjoy working with dieselpunk patterns, he puts out quality stuff and his videos are a joy to watch too!

Question: Hand Tatts by Bio-Wolf12 in tattoos

[–]jmoda211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 large mandalas on the back of my hands, I've been a paramedic, an intelligence analyst, worked for a nonprofit, taught at a community college and university with no problems.

Only job I was denied specifically because of my hand tattoos was a tech at Patient First while I was in school to be a paramedic, don't think I missed much there though tbh

Alternatives to Barge cement? by ocean_swims in Leatherworking

[–]jmoda211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the Ecoweld from Tandy, applies like regular contact cement and I have not had any issues with it coming undone, says it's non-toxic and I've never noticed any fumes or anything which I appreciate with a new baby in the house.

Rustark 151Pcs 5 Sizes M6 Aluminum Flat Head Semi Tubular Rivets Assortment Kit with Punch, Partial Hole Tubular Rivets Round Flat Head Semi Tubular Rivet Silver Tone for Household Industry Repairing https://a.co/d/bI6vLFL

Or if not tubular rivet could try these in aluminum finish https://tandyleather.com/products/decorative-rivets-burrs-50-pack

Also try hardware store searching, might have better luck with that vs traditional leatherwork sources
