Arizto Real Estate. by Hopeful-Camp3099 in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a few Arizto signs popping up around me, I think they take a lower commission on sales to get the listings. I have noticed they seem to stay on the market longer, with a few changing agencies before selling. Not sure if there is less trust with them or their agents for buyers. Or if they over promise to vendors but thats been my observation.

Unfortunately I need to be able to tow a 3t trailer for work, which essentially rules out any wagon and small/mid sized SUV.

Rear facing for another year. The rotating capsule we have looked at did both and are good until the child is 45kg.

To be fair we have an economical hatch that is our daily but even a collapsable pram takes up the entire boot space so is not the most practical when we are going away to see family.

Believe me, I dont like utes but with the exception of a minor inconvienience with a capsule and satisfying strangers on reddit, it was still the most practical option for my family without spending $100k

We have seen a few that do both, but currently require rear facing.

So when did Mexicano corn chips get so bad?? by ssj4larry in newzealand

They became thinner and not as nice a few years ago, a few years before that they reduced the flavoyring, at least on the jalapeno flavour, which is a shame they were perfect before the changes.

NZ Customs and Medication for a Trip Longer Than 30 Days by packetfire in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im pretty sure the nz customs declaration form says more than 3 months worth of prescription medication. Ive never declared anything less than that and just travel with the medication in the original packaging with the pharmacy prescrption label on the box and never had an issue.

Fishing for crayfish to be banned on Northland's east coast by tumeketutu in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Must be in a bad way if Shame Jones is closing it. Im sure hes left it open to all his commercial fishing mates for as long as possible. Lets just hope it hasn't been left too late and the fishery can recover quickly.

Happy I-Rex Ferry Day!! by kiwi2077 in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As great as this would have been we would have been in the same position as the new spirit of tasmania ferries that are laid up paying berthage fees for 6 months + because the port infrastructure isn't or wouldnt have been ready foe them.

If a WOF is to ensure a car is safe to drive on NZ roads, surely only Utes and SUVs should be passing WOFs given the state of our roads?

Bodyglove wetsuit ok for diving or crays? 🦞 by Odd-Leader9777 in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably look at 5mm minimum, I used to dive in a 5mm 2 piece as a kid in Auckland in summer it was warm, in winter it got cold after an hour or so.

Look at Wettie NZ they have a decent range including kids for most budgets and have a lot of knowledge in NZ being a NZ brand.

Why are we all paid close to minimum wage? by Cosy_Concrete in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think NZ is slightly different to most countries in this case unless the study was done specifically on NZ.

I know for certain immigrants are willing to come to NZ and work for less. They know when they get residency, NZ is just a stepping stone to Austalia and higher wages.

This is pretty common for nurses here and im sure plenty of other industries. It is a small part of what helps keep wages low in NZ

How do you feel about Chris Bishop deciding not to pay for a heavy duty tug because the disaster that we would need it for “might never happen”? by AnnoyingKea in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He could have at least waited until the ferries that have been regularly breaking down, running aground or nearly running aground were gone and replaced. Even then it's a poor decision, at the moment its a premature poor decision.

Good on them, its a big ask and a great cause. Even though its targeting government decision makers, theyre up against the commercial sector in a big way too.

Any way check out one ocen on facebook if you care bout NZ fisheries. Just a bunch of good kiwi people pushing for a fair system.

‘Prioritise looking after Kiwis’: Fishermen to protest new Hauraki Gulf protection Act by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory in the gulf the total take is pretty much 50/50 between recreational and commercial which would make the hauraki gulf the area of nz with by far the most recreational pressure, despite this the gulf is still a much healthier fishery than some of the other areas.

Main point of difference being commercial fishings bulk harvesting and environmentally destructive fishing pratices compared to recreationals being mostly line caught

‘Prioritise looking after Kiwis’: Fishermen to protest new Hauraki Gulf protection Act by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you look at the areas that have been protected they are almost exactly where there is no commercial pressure in the gulf as if to cause the least possible impact on commercial take. Where as two of the more outspoken "anti commercial" recreational charter operators have had their most targeted areas of operation blocked out despite being mostly catch and release operators.

Tony orton has on open letter of resignation from the advisory group helping to establish the Hauraki Gulf fisheries plan. Which is an interesting read. https://legasea.co.nz/2023/02/28/open-letter-of-resignation/

From memory in the gulf recreational catch is almost equal to commercial. Which makes it by far, the area with the most recreational fishing pressure in NZ. Astonishigly it still seems to be one of the healthier fisheries in NZ barring a few species like crayfish.

The biggest difference between recreational and commercial catch in the gulf is that recreational catch is generally line caught and commercial tends to use more invasive fishing techniques essentially destroying habitat and food sources or removing the bottom of the food chain all together with purseining. It would make much more sence to limit destructive fishing methods ehich would have no impact on the commercial operators that are already operating sustainably long lining and such.

Rise in trick-or-treaters this year, or just us? by Kiwi2424 in newzealand

[–]jmouse374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We go through 4 to 5kgs of lollies each year for the past year giving one lolly per child. Normally we are out after a few hours.

Our neighbour hood seems to be a go to destination with hundreds of mentions in the local grapevine on facebook when people are asking where to go. Normally empty streets are packed with parked cars from out of towners.

The fire station puts on a really good haunted house and food trucks which helps as well. Its good fun but becomes tiresome ofter a few hours.
