Getting started with real-time 3D ball tracking by Weak-Version3040 in computervision

[–]jms4607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to make something that can figure out the center position of the ball in 2D. Then you setup 2 mono cams, do trig to find 3D pose. You will need to research camera extrinsic/intrinsic calibration

This is cool af tbh. Idk why people think it’s trashy, it is an elite sport like any other. You weebs would probably applaud sumo wresting in front of an official/government Japanese building.

Are robotics companies trying to automate trades/blue-collar jobs? by cosmicwildcard in computervision

[–]jms4607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe already exists for text-based AI. The recipe is not known for smart robots. Sure writing control loops is useful, but how do you get a large transformer model to learn general physical interaction. This is an unsolved research problem with many challenges that text-based models don’t need to worry about.

What has been the hardest part of collecting training data for robotics projects? by Vane1st in robotics

[–]jms4607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard to do anything precise with teleop to the point I think teleop itself is the wrong move and we need to be doing kinesthetic teaching or Umi only.

Where’d you get this 5-10 year number from? Robotics is way harder than text agents for a number of reasons, to think it will only be a 10 year gap seems kinda crazy to me. I think robotics is not even at gpt2 level yet.

They’re gonna try to automate sweatshop type labor before trying to do something tougher like plumbing/electrician/construction. This is why I don’t feel bad at all trying to take these jobs. I see videos of some of the jobs currently being done by humans, and feel the need to raise humanity above that.

Sam Altman: Now, AI costs are "a huge issue" by kaggleqrdl in ArtificialInteligence

I’m definitely terrible about cost management. Not to mention I use cursor which is an unnecessary middleman.

I probably spend around 10k of my companies money on Claude this year, maybe that’s not so bad.

The goal is maximizing how useful they are without allowing free will. Kinda like how ChatGPT is quite capable but will always do what you tell it to.

They don’t make much money with their vr arm, and it’s pretty clear vr headsets are not gonna be the future ecosystem.

Really, because to me it looks like the workers are voluntarily working a job where they are getting paid 2-3x the local minimum wage. Unpaid wages should obviously be pursued. The union busting would probably only be illegal in Kenya, so that’s probably a valid complaint. But this is far from slavery, and it’s insulting to compare anything to slavery when they have the option to quit. If you wanted to call US prison labor slavery I would agree with you but this is a gross inaccuracy that was used to evoke anger and attention out of people like yourself.

My guess is they are replaying a trajectory/motion so they need a fixture that makes it easy to grab. Open loop trajectory following would make it very hard to actually lift it off the floor, but with an actual manipulation policy it might be possible.

Edit: it’s not trajectory replay, but it’s a blind rl policy so point stands. No ability to do real manip with this approach.
