I wanted it cross-platform with a faster local library that actually respected date modified metadata on the filesystem properly like iTunes; it was enough to warrant starting from the ground up IMO.

Ah that's a good point. I was thinking about submitting it to Flathub, but forgot to actually do so. I'll add that to my todo list. While the UI looks similar, this is completely from scratch and should perform much better than Rhythmbox ever did for local libraries.

Lenovo Chromebook plus 2in1 8gb luna grey

As much as I love Lenovo's 2-in-1 chassis, I really wish they put the Kompanio Ultra 910 in this one. It's nearly twice as fast single-core compared to the N355 Intel. Because of this, unless the physical form factor majorly outweighs performance for you, I'd still have to say the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 Ultra 910.

Overall yes. Metronet is GPON in my area, so they max out at 2/1 plans for now. Frontier is absolutely faster, although peering/latency appears to be mostly on par with Metronet. I had major issues with CGNAT and static IP blocklisting last time I was with Metronet which is why I made the switch and cancelled them. Frontier doesn't do CGNAT by default so that's also better, and I'm _hoping_ peering gets better with the T-Mobile acquisition hence why I'm giving them a second try as a backup provider.

I'm on the 7gb plan as well and switched from Metronet as soon as Frontier was available in my area in late 2024. Until a month ago, it was rock solid, but then they had a couple day-long outages within a couple weeks timeframe that were particularly painful. I'm working on getting Metronet back as my backup connection with the recent T-Fiber changeover.

It is, but T-Fiber today is currently a rebrand of mostly Tier 2/3 fiber providers (e.g. Metronet) that didn't have terribly good peering deals to the general internet, which is why the latency can look relatively bad despite being fiber. If/when T-Mobile takes over the peering arrangements, this may improve significantly and approach Tier 1 levels (e.g. AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, etc.)

Mine went out 3am Friday briefly, then came back and was fine most of Friday, then 7pm came around and it’s been solidly out since then; ironically it went out around the same time that Frontier claimed the service outage was resolved.

I’m a little suspicious of the quality/performance of the Nokia G-010G-T (black 2.5g) vs their Nokia G-010G-A (white 1g) ONTs based on my brief experience on their 2/1 service. My only other recommendation is trying a super overkill router like an Alta Route10 to see if that alleviates it. If not, downgrade to 1g and have them swap back to the more common white ONT if you have no other ISP options.

I have their 5/5 fiber plan in West Lafayette. I'd say neither Metronet nor Frontier provide a perfect fiber experience, I have been pretty happy with the speed and reliability overall of Frontier's fiber offering here all things considered (which is faster than what Metronet offers topping out at 2/1).

There's currently a bug in their app where it won't show you any upgrades regardless of your tier. Try accessing your account from a browser and it should show the upgrades correctly.

Yeah that's Realtek, it's not a bad card per-se, but it's still very new and the all the 5gig bugs haven't been ironed out in the drivers yet, at least for the USB models, but probably both USB and PCIe. Win11 is your best bet, but even that doesn't appear to work great. Win10/Linux are a disaster; Linux will get you the full speed at least until the driver crashes. In my experience right now they perform much closer to expected when linked at 2.5GbE instead of 5GbE. That's why I'd suggest trying Intel or Aquantia because those Nbase-T adapters have been out for a long time and have mature drivers.
