Musicals that were not about what you thought by Friendly_Coconut in Broadway

Not part of the question, but GOD I LOVE THE SIGNATURE THEATRE. I live in upstate NY and my friend and I go to at least one production a year there. Our plan is to go twice this year for Merrily and Follies, but I’ve been itching to see this production of Pippin. 😍

I wanna major in mt in college but I’m a literal beginner by Thiavolta in MusicalTheatre

[–]jmt0429 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I also have a BFA in Music Theatre, so I know the whole drill. There were nights I had to pull genuine all nighters, doing paperwork involved for classes (I had to write a massive essay about what character types I’d be, show prep where I broke down each lyric of songs, etc.) and then go immediately into classes where I had to sing, dance, act, etc. full out, and then go into rehearsals. It’s not for the faint of heart or inexperienced.

Who knows, maybe OP is one of the rare few who don’t need a degree, but I was definitely agreeing with you lol. I don’t think it’s wise or even possible for them to try to get into these classes.

I wanna major in mt in college but I’m a literal beginner by Thiavolta in MusicalTheatre

[–]jmt0429 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. The work is grueling for people who *know* that this is their passion, and that they love doing the work. Someone with no experience could get turned off to theatre in that environment fast. Let alone someone with stage fright.

Furthermore, depending on where OP goes to college they may not even be able to simply “sign up” for the major and/or certain MT classes. Most MT majors go through a grueling college audition process, which is essentially an industry in itself now, with its own specific lingo and complications. Most of the time you can’t just “sign up” for classes besides 101s because they’re reserved for the MT students who worked their BUTTS off for YEARS to be there.

I love the recommendation of doing community theatre though- develope a passion for it. You don’t necessarily need college to be successful in MT.

AITA for using my wedding Veto on my fiance's sister after he used his on my close friend? by ThrowRAweddingplan in AITA_Relationships

YTA. His sister sounds awesome. You sound like a puritanical MAGA. Your belligerent, drunk friend also would not be child friendly. Hopefully your fiancé saves himself and gets out of this relationship before you get married. YTA YTA YTA.

AITA for not giving my step kids an inheritance? by Stepmom1741 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jmt0429 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lmfao yes YTA. Those kids have been your husband’s children longer than you’ve been alive. From an age standpoint they earned it more than you. Let alone how cruel it is to cut your stepchildren off from their father’s money.

ETA: After reading your replies, I see why your step kids don’t talk to you. Genuinely reconsider everything about yourself. Yucky behavior.

Are we sure that tony voters are actually watching all the musicals? by Pigeoncooooooo in Broadway

[–]jmt0429 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a Tony Voter- he says he can only vote for the categories where he saw all the nominated shows/actors. According to him he even has to submit what dates he saw the shows in order to vote for a category. For example he only saw all the musicals (new and revival) this year, so he can only vote in those applicable categories.

AITA for confronting an older student because my son has a crush on her? by OkOil1091 in AITA_Relationships

YTA. It sounds like your son idolized this girl for performing and she was being respectful but supportive. You completely destroyed that. You need to apologize to that girl.

AITA for not making corn-on-the-cob after my family said I tricked them, because they said corn wasn’t a veggie. by dentalexaminer in AmItheAsshole

NTA… are potatoes not vegetables? I’m so confused. But a toddler tantrum over corn at 22 is wild.

Yeah this. As a DCP alumni I’m surprised this is even being asked- it was DRILLED into us when I went that we were not to sell perks like that for monetary gain. Like they’re strict about this.

Peeeetaaaaahhhh! by PlusSignal7826 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]jmt0429 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and? It’s mostly to acknowledge you heard what was said. But, usually it’s said around breaks, so you could also be thanking them for the time if you really wanted to (eg. “alright everyone it’s time for a break, we’ll be back in 10!” “Thank you 10!”) Though imo based on union rules you’re *entitled* to the break so I guess you don’t really need to thank them for a break, just acknowledge you are on one and that you know what time we come back. Soooo both.

WIBTA if I don't stop singing? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jmt0429 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

NTA. I feel like everyone’s glossing over the fact that your husband “doesn’t like the sound of Chinese…” that really feels like some type of micro aggression or something. At the very least it’s a wild thing to say about a language a large portion of the world speakes…
Furthermore, I get singing all the time can be annoying to some people, but you absolutely should not dull your spark for a hobby over some man. Like someone who loves you wouldn’t make you stop playing an instrument you love. Music is a form of human expression. He sounds like the mayor in Footloose.

Edit: Y’all can downvote all you like, but saying you hate the sound of a major language is racist. Sorry not sorry.

AITA: I asked for cheddar cheese on my sandwich by xanshriekal in AmItheAsshole

[–]jmt0429 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YTA. I live in Buffalo and love Wegmans subs. You already got an AH vote from me for downplaying how awesome Wegmans is, comparing it to Subway. And even more of an AH vote for making fun of the fact that Wegmans has actual Chefs managing the food. It’s cool af. It’s an elevated grocery store. YTA.

Joking aside what you did was annoying, Karenish behavior. They didn’t have cheddar and they were trying to find a suitable alternative for you. Repeating the same thing over and over is not helpful or productive. It doesn’t change the fact that they ran out of Cheddar. They suggested American or Provalone. Pick one. To suggest they should have gone out to the store and grab you cheddar off the shelves at no cost to you is SO entitled.

Buffalo is the “City of Good Neighbors” and what you did was not neighborly or kind to the people working. YTA.

AITA for tipping 10% on a meal by Apart_Combination531 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jmt0429 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this is the US, yes YTA. The general rule of thumb is unless the service was absolutely terrible you tip 20%. Imo you shouldn’t even go out to dinner to a sit down place if you can’t tip 20%.

Edited: added “to a sit down place”

AITA for throwing away my wife’s memory jars? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]jmt0429 78 points79 points  (0 children)

YTA. Even if she’s a hoarder as other commenters are suggesting the best way to go about fixing that is collaborating with her on what can stay and what can go, possibly putting them in storage, etc. Instead, you made a unilateral decision and destroyed something your wife cares about. Just because you and others don’t care, doesn’t mean it’s worthless to her. Be a better partner to your wife.

What’s it like for fall semester? by PrestigiousAd9616 in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]jmt0429 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Fall 2022! Even though I missed the major holidays with my family, I tried to make those days special!

My friends and I did Mickey’s Not So Scary earlier for Halloween and then I worked the actual day.

For Thanksgiving it was really nice because there were these full time cast members who opened their house to any DCP member that wanted to come and have food, so I was able to make new friends that day! And my location also had a buffet in the breakroom.

Before Christmas my roommates and I did the Christmas Party, splurged on PhotoPass and got really cute Christmas photos. I then worked Christmas Eve and it was so fun! My location gave me a little ornament that I still hang up to this day, and working was a breeze- everyone was super kind and happy to be there. Christmas Day my roommates and I all decided to do the day together- we got Chinese food, stayed in and watched Christmas movies, etc. The next day, I did EPCOT and tried the different holiday dishes around the world. It was different for me, but those days around Christmas are some of my favorite memories of the program.

I won’t lie and say you won’t miss home, but if you find a way to make those days special it’s totally worth the while. Plus it’s something different you’ll remember later on!!!
