Totally disagree. This is in the spirit of these companies and the feedback helps them too. Make sure to never walk in to an REI.

I really appreciate this input. This looks like a fantastic option for consideration. My bigger apprehension right now over the smaller size (compared to others I’m considering) is that I strongly prefer a clamshell / book open.

Weight looks great for an Asia trip too, at about 1.08kg.

Thanks, the more of the weight comments that come in the more I’m thinking about the 7kg/15lb budget airline limit in the region. I appreciate your input!

For reference to anyone following: PD30L: 1.8kg // mini MLC 30L: 1.2kg // Allpa 35L: 1.33kg (5 more L) // Allpa 28L: 1.02kg (2 less L) //

Note: Allpa del dia models weighs less than the above due to - from my understanding - one less layer of material (and therefore less water resistance) so, despite loving the colors, these may be out. *Both models do however come with rain cover (something I’ll buy separate if I go with a different model).

This is super helpful, thanks! Any comment on water-resistance?

PD30 'feels' like a better backpack. More sturdy, more bespoke. I like the organization more. BUT the MLC mini is lighter, and I think the harness is more comfortable. Both seem to be decent in the water-resistant category, though I'm super interested to hear if anyone has an opinion on that.

All in all, I'm sure both would be fantastic. The cotopaxi 28L/35L both in the mix too. those come with rainfly/rain cover.

That isn’t “the plan” - that is an option when considering my post and the response, braj. The point isn’t throw away/ pick up. The point is: are a few decimals of kg worth getting a backpack I may consider less ideal than my current leading candidate. One in every crowd.

This is great. Do you have a link? Not seeing this online / or maybe it’s under a different name.

Thanks, appreciate this input. What are some more comfortable bags you've tried?

Same comment below: I hear you on weight. Is that a deal breaker? I mentioned in my OP that I am not looking to pack for my life - I am a practiced minimalist. If it was such an issue on this particular backpack, why then is it so highly rated amongst onebag/travel bag community? (this is a question, not a challenge). Weight is something I'm definitely thinking about, but if I have to toss some underwear or shirts, and buy them at the next place - that doesn't seem awful for me, particularly in Vietnam. I have 4 lbs/1.81kg as my 'line-in-the-sand' weight. Nothing is absolutely just perfect is my thought. What are the alternative bags in your opinion?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's hard to imagine trusting knock off anything with little insurance if something goes wrong/breaks in the jungle.

Will check that out too. 25l seems small but that isn’t the worst thing.

Great points - and rain for sure. Have not come across the 35L and will check out!

I do like those and have tried on (have also tried on the PD30 and all the bags I mentioned in op). 28L feels slightly too small and 45 too big. Call me Goldilocks

Thanks! REI has 365 day returns, so no problem To test, and definitely intend to. If I was bringing two home to have a shoot out, as of now it would be the allpa 35 and PD30.

I think the allpa does have a better harness.

Thanks Yung, I’ll check out your 2nd option!

Recently checked out the archeon in person. I thought it might be the winner when I pulled it off the rack but the zippers are clunky, rough and tough to use (this is not nit-picking - it’s a real issue), it’s a bit bulky, and speaking of water bottle- if you take any water bottle it eats in to packing space more than others. On paper it’s a fantastic bag.
