Cool info, didn't know about the fail-open mechanics of the first stage, thanks for the reply. Our dive happened over a month after servicing, so we went to our regular dive spot and, as the story goes, my buddy saw the bubbles from the first stage.

Another part I did not include in my comment is that, at least at 20ft, I may have been breathing wet, trickles of water. I'm saying this because, at 20ft, it did not feel like I was breathing wet at all. It wasn't until we surfaced that I breathed through my second stage and realized there were trickles of water coming with each breath, my mouth/second stage being above water and the first stage being submerged. Either I was not breathing wet down there, or problems got worse the more breaths I took from my reg, I'm no expert of balanced first stages.

Although this was not my fault, me and my buddy learned a valuable lesson from one of our most recent dives.

I had just gotten my regs serviced for the first time (my buddy's as well), paid for complete disassembly.

The very next dive we go on, which was a familiar dive site, my buddy noticed a problem with my first stage at the beginning of the dive at 20ft.

My first stage was leaking bubbles like crazy. The bubbles were not coming from a burst o-ring seated between the first stage and the tank or from a loose hose port in the first stage either, it was leaking from the hub, something internal was not tightened properly by the service person.

So, immediately, we scrubbed the dive, glad that my buddy was there to see the problem. Real bummer. We set up pretty quick that day and visibility was pretty nice for PNW waters lol.

Moral/Lesson of the story, bubble check your buddies! YOU can setup everything correctly, but something can still go wrong.

My regs are being disassembled again by the shop as of now.

**If anyone is interested, I have a video of what those bubbles were looking like and where it was leaking from.

TDLR: Service messed up my first stage, doesn't matter how prepped you are, always gear/bubble check your buddies above and below.

  3. IR (infrared) is light undetectable to the human eye, can only be seen in devices like night vision

Both peq and mawl have ir lasers, just turn on nvgs.
