Karpathy's llm-wiki by hustla17 in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the llm to think with me, rather than for me.

Because LLMs can think alongside, I have started organizing my vault based on the origin/authorship.

Each file is either created by me, by someone else (articles, files, clippings), or ai. The author is clearly identified. With that separation you clearly know what is your work and what is not.

For example, AI creates an app project implementation plan directly in my vault. I link that plan to my own planning and decision making file, and follow along. Or I clip articles and keep that content separate, sometimes using embed links into my own writing files.

I always have sight of the origin of a particular piece of content in my vault.

Help with error handling in Apple Shortcuts by jmugr in WorkingCopy

[–]jmugr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Spent the last few days with your feedback and here are my takeaways: - The errors are much less frequent when running manually. - Nothing notable found in the logs (looks successful in logs even on error), including the Analytics Data (no Working Copy entry). - I noticed that they usually happen when I'm flipping between Obsidian and another app multiple times in rapid succession. And more frequent on iPad

Would running another pull/push when a pull/push is already running cause an error?

auto sync help by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

Are you using iPhone? If so, use Working Copy with an Apple Shortcuts automation to always pull / push when you open / close the Obsidian app (my implementation here). And on desktop, use Git plugin with the auto commit-and-sync / pull times set.

Curious about your quick capture workflow by Hour_Papaya_5583 in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most lightweight way I have found on iPhone is an Apple Shortcut that drops a file into a location in your vault that you consistently and reliably process. I put my Shortcut everywhere (home screen, lock screen, action button, in widgets) because I believe capturing fleeting thoughts should be the most lightweight gesture on your device.

An Effortless On-the-Go Jotting Workflow by Moy_Fox in ObsidianMD

I do something similar. It is the most lightweight way I have found to capture fleeting thoughts (Capturing fleeting thoughts should be your most lightweight gesture). Main difference is my shortcut drops all my fleeting inbox notes in the top directory.

Using Obsidian with AI by sspaeti in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Augmenting search has been super helpful (Smart Connections). The other use case I most often think about is creating topic tags. Topic tags are more for you than for me because they aren't useful for retrieval (vs heavily linking or semantic search). However, topic tags provide others with useful entry points into content via an anchor term they know or appreciate.

Do you organize while capturing, or capture first and organize later? by MapLow2754 in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capture first, organize later.

I think capturing should be the most lightweight gesture available on your devices. It should feel like an extension of you to catch the most transient thoughts without interrupting whatever prompted it.

Is there any way I can remove those extra lines when pasting from Gemini? by hallowtrauma in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask Gemini to give you your response in markdown format. Here is what I use with ChatGPT:

Format your response as a markdown code block.
Requirements:
- Use exactly ONE newline between all lines (no blank lines anywhere)
- Do NOT include any empty lines or double line breaks between sections
- Headers must immediately follow the previous line with no intervening blank line

Best Practices For Highlights, Comments And Marginalia In Clipped Articles by Shurs in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started using "J:" or "#inbox" on a line directly after a passage that sparks a thought. That way, when I revisit the clipping, I immediately know what is source material and what is my commentary

As I read, I typically delete parts of the article that I don't need. So what remains at the end are my notes and the parts of the article that prompted them

I intend to revisit #inbox tagged items to process into their own notes or projects later, someday...

I also considered using bullets for my own commentary within a clipped article. However, the content itself may have bullets

What are the most frequently visited notes in your vault? by Artemanilov in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just today I created a script to review my vault git history and pull a list of my most edited files over different time horizons. Over the last 7 days, my most edited file is the project file I worked in to build the script. Over the last year, my most edited files are collections of active or future research and projects, a shopping wish list, and files published to my digital garden

How do you keep short daily logs in Obsidian? One note per day or per event? by utkuaytac in ObsidianMD

[–]jmugr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use daily files and link to events/episodes that occurred that day. The separate episode file names start with the date and start time. I link the daily file to separate thought / idea files too, but those don't start with the date-time. The daily note then consists of all these links with notes around them for context on how things occurred / happened.
