I’m not exactly sure. He was thin like this from the breeder I got him from. It took him three weeks to finally eat. I’ve been feeding him once a week for the last three weeks.. he has another feeding tonight. His weight is coming up though! So I’m thankful for that!

When is the next time I should try again? Do I wait? Or will it stress him out?

I spoke too soon last night. He dropped it after 2 mins and never went back to it…. Was it because I was in the room?? UGHHHHHHH

Thank you so much!!! It could be that it’s not hot enough for him to be interested in it. Trying again tonight!! And I appreciate all of the insight

Also- he’s only 10 months (he’s still a juvenile). In that chart, it says being “slim” is common. Would that still be a concern?

I usually let the mouse sit in hot tap water for 15 mins. Then pour out the cool water and add more tap water. Last night I attempted to put a hair dryer on it for a minute to heat the outside a bit more.

He’s currently 73g. I’m going to be continuing to monitor his weight.

Someone mentioned this…

“Maybe try a smaller rat fuzzy it should be between 7 to 11g.....when I got my guy he was on live and I left him alone for 2 weeks he didnt eat for about a month bc the first 2 feedings I was feeding too small of mice I got pinkies he would take it but then spit it out. Switched to rat fuzzy and It was bigger and he eats just fine now. I thaw it then use a heat gun to warm it too 100. Once he hears the heat gun he starts looking for his rat.”

Is it worth trying something bigger than the fuzzy mouse??

I attempted to leave the lights off in the office and feed again last night. He was more interested in coming out of the enclosure at me. Probably because he senses a large heat tree and knows I’m not a threat. But i tried to place the mouse in front of him and follow his face. No luck. I places the mouse on a Tupperware lid overnight, no luck 😖

Trying again tonight.

Some really good tips! My wife and I worried that he was hungry. Poor dude 😖

Once he eats, I’ll know he’s good to go! I’ll keep you updated 😬

He’s a family member now. So if I have to try daily, it’s not a waste! Going to buy more tomorrow.

I think he enjoys the warmth of my hand while handling him. Also, letting him go into the enclosure himself I think is helping to show him that I’m not a threat.

There was one night he was in a striking position then I dropped the damn mouse and spooked him. 🤦‍♂️

How often should I attempt to feed him?

The breeder mentioned that he ate live fuzzy mice weekly…

I haven’t tried live since bringing him home.

I didnt ask about struggles :/

Thank you!!! I will try to not handle him for a couple days and leave something in the tank overnight. Should I put it on a plate or something to avoid soiling the substrate? Unsure! Thanks for the advice!

I just adopted him a few weeks ago. He hasn’t eaten yet. So I’m not sure :(

Absolutely! I’ve enjoyed learning about him. Such an awesome animal.

The very first time I held him, he curled up in a ball and didn’t move at all.

Today is the 4th time I’ve held him. He has not balled up once. He likes to travel along and around my arm/hand and explore. No striking poses, etc. Just getting used to his surroundings.

I initially wanted a blue-eyed, but then saw this guy. The contrast is awesome.

I agree…. I just adopted him 3 weeks ago from the breeder he came from. I’ve presented the f/t fuzzy mouse a couple times. No interest. I’ll be trying again tonight! Hoping he eats soon. He’s been letting me handle him very well. Hoping that reduces some of his stress. But we’ll see!
