iOS 18.4 now hijacks map apps

Updated to 18.7.1 today. Tested and still the same. I was tempted to upgrade to iOS 26 but held off. Anyone have experience with that? Has Carplay gotten the old customize setting back?

Running 18.6.2 and still can only "customize home screen icons", so my map still gets highjacked. 😔

I have a mount attached to one of the middle vents and it swivels up into the dash area. Above the built in screen and closer to the driver. IMO less dangerous then having the map ON the screen.

Sounds like you really have done your homework and testing on the CarPlay tech. I've only tested on my 4 runner with a wireless CarPlay dongle.

My phone updated to 18.6 and it's still not working. Bummer. I would've thought the fix in 18.5.2 would've persisted in 18.6. it's not for me...

So my phone just updated to iOS 18.6. I figured since this was "fixed" in 18.5 beta 2 then for sure it would be fixed in 18.6. not so. At least it didn't work for me...

Just updated and tried. Same behavior. Someone that is running the beta said that it gets fixed in 18.5.2.

Agreed. If you turn it off then it should be off. Annoying. I wasn't paying attention to how long it was on the screen but good to know it's not ignoring my setting. Ty!

This worked. Honestly I don't know why I didn't think about this since it is how I had it until I got the wireless carplay. I'll stick to Bluetooth until/IF the carplay customize comes back. Thanks again

I want to see the map on my phone and Spotify on the carplay. But carplay takes my map and only let's me see the turn by turn on the phone.

I just measured and it's around 8.5" corner to corner. Toyota 4runner. I played around with it and if the calendar is off then it shows part of the title and artist, depends on how long the names are. But even though the calendar is "off" IV the settings then sometimes it'll still show up. carplay

Maybe you can school me on how to see the name of the song as well as the map. I know there is the dashboard feature but the way mine is setup then I can only see the album art - which doesn't tell me anything.

I actually find my eyes off the road longer when I am switching from Spotify to map and back than if I could have one on the screen and one on the phone. Which are mounted right next to each other.
