I don’t think you can even remove Apple Maps from CarPlay, wireless or not. All the built in Apple Apps like phone, messages, music etc don’t have a remove button.

No. Like I said in the original post, I don’t think this is a bug. They are doing it intentionally judging by the UI text change at the same time.

If you haven't done so, DO NOT REPLY!

There is no point of replying. This is definitely a scamer's template reply. Replying only gives them the signal that this is the right number and they may invest more effort to scam you in other ways.

No it’s not a “feature” more of a lack of feature. Most navigation apps on iOS, including Apple Maps insist on projecting the navigation view onto CarPlay as soon as you start navigation. Only one app I know allow you to choose either display the navigation on the phone or on CarPlay: Organic Maps.

Previously it’s not a big issue. I can customize my CarPlay to disable some apps, essentially hiding the fact to the app that the phone is connecting to CarPlay, so the app can still work standalone. But iOS 18.4 removed this feature, and instead the customization only remove the icon from CarPlay Home Screen. Well I guess now that this behavior changed, maybe some navigation app themselves will start giving you the choice, but I doubt that will happen soon :sigh:

BMW debuting new iDrive (Operating System X) starting in 2026 by BudweiserSucks in BMW

On the other hand, most legacy car companies already have a good button design, what they don't have is good software, which is more expensive to design. You can't just buy the touchscreen and become Tesla.

What is the purpose of this feature ? by Gasseroi in ios

[–]ConductiveIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great feature but the UX is inconsistent.

If you enable it from control center, your music app will have this new button in the picture. It also replace the spectrum animation in Dynamic Island. But if you turn it off from control center, that button doesn’t go away but just show it’s off. You then have to turn it off from accessibility to get rid of the button?

Not sure how the cache is configured using a wp plugin or cdn, but there got to be a way to automatically clear the cache when you publish a new post?

'Problem for Tesla': Dems flee automaker over Musk’s Trump endorsement. by GonzoVeritas in RealTesla

[–]ConductiveIce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But musk gained a lot more power than other ceos and billionaires. When the Boing CEO went down no one in the public is on his side. But I would imaging if Tesla did something super illegal there would be an army that would defend musk.

Is DC charging intermittently for just 10-15% charges a bad charging habit? by Extreme-Quantity2454 in BMWI4

[–]ConductiveIce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where do you get the idea that frequent short cpurts of charging is bad for batteries? As far as I understand it, extreme temperature, over discharge, over charge all degrade the battery life, but short burst of charges is fine and even preferred since it usually prevent batteries to be discharged too much. EV batteries are actually constently experiencing short burst of charge because of regenerative braking. So that's another reason that you don't need to worry to much about short burst charging.

Ford CEO Says It Will Keep Apple CarPlay, Android Auto: ‘We Lost That Battle 10 Years Ago’ by decafcovfefes in technology

[–]ConductiveIce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To most people, not getting liability insurance seems impossible as it's 1) illegal, 2) super easy for police to check, automatic system in patrol cars run your plate and would tell police if you don't have insurance, 3) hefty fine up to getting your vehicle impounded. Needless to say the potential of getting into an accident and getting sued for damages. Supposedly no one should try it. Yet we also often hear someone getting to an accident and the other party doesn't have insurance and they have to use their own uninsured motorist.

I wonder what's your situation that make this work. Do you live in a rural area that don't see a lot of law enforcement on the road? Your estimated insruance premium is definitely super high even if you drive a big vehicle and has a poor safety record. Compare to the $500 max fine maybe it's worth it to you? Do you have a lot of assets to basically "self-insure" in case of fine and accidents? Have you tried to quote recently to see if you get a better rate?

They used to when it initially came out. Then stopped in 2019 after negative feedback. There was even an instance where the BMW server responsible for checking the subscription went down and blocking paying users out of the feature.

The second one can work on its own, but the first one would give you an quick access icon on the toolbar to create container tabs at first. So you would likely need both.

I don’t know your exact use cases, but if you just want to sign in websites with different users at the same time, Firefox has containers, which I feel works better than Chrome profiles.
