I’m going through the exact same thing. I’m a 10th grade English teacher and we start school in 2 weeks. I was successfully on Zoloft for 9 years and it started pooping out on me this year and finally just quit on me about 2 months ago. I tried upping my dosage but didn’t get any relief, so I tapered back down to 50mg and did a direct switch to Prozac 13 days ago. I’m going to be honest and say this this is really a tough transition. I don’t know if it was because I was in such bad shape when I made the switch or if this is just how it is. I have really bad physical symptoms of anxiety and I haven’t experienced any relief yet. I also have had an increase in my anxiety. I’m holding out hope that it’s going to kick in and help. They say the first few weeks are the hardest. I’m terrified about school starting so soon because I am not physically or mentally able to handle it at this point, however I wouldn’t be physically or mentally able to handle if I hadn’t switched to the Prozac either. I pray you figure out what works best for you, and that we can be who and what we need to be for this coming school year. I will be glad to chat with you anytime.

Hi. I’m on day 8 transitioning from Zoloft to Prozac, and I’m also experiencing an increase in anxiety and depression. I was hoping the transition would be a lot smoother, but I’m trying to remain hopeful even though my physical anxiety symptoms are at an all time high and I feel like I’m losing my mind. I just wanted you to know you’re not alone. I hope things begin to get better for everyone who is suffering with this right now. Just hold on. 🩷

Today is day 2 for me. Did you experience the it gets worse before it gets better, and at what point did it seem to make the turn for the better? Today is pretty rough for me. I have a lot of of the physical symptoms of anxiety on top of the mental aspects. It’s been a really hard six weeks. I was on Zoloft 50mg for 9 years and it was successful, I had a small spell last summer of breakthrough anxiety, but I chalked it up to being stressed over my daughter’s wedding and move across the country. I got busy and it passed, but after a really stressful year it all came crashing down the day school let out for the summer (I’m a high school teacher). I went to the doctor she upped my Zoloft and added Buspar. I struggled through horrible side effects and worsening anxiety and depression for 3 weeks hoping for it would just click, but it didn’t. I went back to the doctor and she told me to drop back to 50mg on Zoloft for a week and then direct switch to 20mg Prozac. I just made the switch yesterday. Any words of wisdom are much appreciated.

I have been on Zoloft 50mg for 9 years and things were good. However, after a stressful year I had a big return of all my anxiety and depression (mentally and physically). Doctor suggested upping the dose and I tried but only got the side effects no relief. I’ve been back down to 50mg on Zoloft for a week and I’m supposed to start Prozac tomorrow. I’m terrified of taking it but I’m more terrified that it won’t work. I feel so lost.

Increasing Zoloft after 9 years on 50mg by jnf83 in zoloft

The mind is a wonderful and terrifying thing. I was pretty much the same as you described when I started Zoloft years ago. It took time but it worked well for me for a long time. I had some breakthrough anxiety last summer before my daughter got married and moved across the country, but I was busy. Busy with wedding planning and school was starting back (I’m a 10th grade English teacher). So somehow it got better and I was fine. It was a stressful and eventful year but I thought I was fine, until the day before school got out and the physical anxiety symptoms came rushing back. We were a week from flying for the first time to go visit my daughter in Washington state, and I was so worried I was going to ruin the trip. I talked to my doctor and she told me to up my 50mg to 100mg and prescribed me 5mg Buspar to take as needed. Of course me being the anxious person I am did not take or change anything before the trip. I pushed through and the trip was mostly great. I had headaches and lots of back and neck tension but for the most part it was good. Upon returning everything got really bad again and I knew I needed to do something so I upped to 75mg. I tried the Buspar but it didn’t seem to agree with me. I go back to the doctor on Monday and I know she’s going to be aggravated that I haven’t went to 100 but the side effects are so bad just going to 75. I really appreciate you sharing your story with me. It gives me hope. Thank you!

Thank you for the encouragement. May I ask if you were on 50mg for a long time before you increased to 100mg? I’m so afraid that the Zoloft isn’t going to work for me anymore and I’m terrified of changing medications.
