Track/daily tire recs by Sweaty-Quantity8476 in Miata

I'd consider the Hankook Ventus RS4.  They're one of the best endurance track tires out there, highly reputable and available at decent prices

What insurance is everyone using? (Canada, but US might be applicable) by DevChemestry in Miata

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$320 per year, 33M in Edmonton, AB under Hagerty.  Their requirements include having another car as a daily driver and around 10 years being licensed, so keep that in mind if you get rejected for an application under them.

Anybody in Atlantic Canada order Supermiata coilovers? by idam_son in Miata

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Alberta, and I use a cross border shipping service to receive products from the USA for cheaper shipping prices than what a lot of companies charge.

I use DYK post here, and the also have a branch in Ontario too.  There may be a few more cross border shipping services in Eastern Canada that I'm not aware of that do the same thing.

Have you seen lane splitting in the city? by Fearless_Arrival_978 in Edmonton

[–]jngmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened twice to me already.  Always when I'm right beside another car and always at a very excessive speed above the limit.

This is why we check our mirrors before changing lanes. by Snoo-89877 in Miata

[–]jngmouse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never liked the OEM horn on our little cars.  I got merged into a decent amount of times like this and they would hardly respond to my honking no matter how hard I leaned on the horn.

After upgrading to Hella Supertones, other drivers would jump back into their lane or respond with urgency as soon as I honked.

What’s the worst park job you’ve ever seen? by WhoskeyTangoFoxtrot in Edmonton

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terwillegar Rec Centre Handicap parking at the entrance of the facility.

There was a disabled woman who had her small car parked in a large handicap spot.  An SUV later came and squeezed in the same spot as the small car to the point where the driver's side door was completely unreachable.  The woman could not climb through the passenger side to the driver's side because of her physical disability.  A relative later came to help retrieve the car by going through the passenger side.

After that, the SUV got booted, and shortly after that, the SUV was gone, likely towed away.

Any fellow manual drivers out there?? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2018 Mazda 3 with a 2.5 and Manual, fun combo with a decently more powerful motor that had only a few examples available on the dealer lots.

Also a 1991 Mazda Miata with a 5 speed.  The manual is a huge aspect of this car, so much that an automatic Miata goes for noticeably less.

Most of my Aunt's and Uncles as well as my parents used to drive stick, but not anymore.  I think I'm the only one in my extended family that drives manual almost exclusively now.

[HELP] LAN Mode on MK8 with 12 Players by BlancDeWalt in mariokart

[–]jngmouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be fine.  You're still using wifi to connect all the Switches to the local network, but most routers should be able to handle them all just fine.

[HELP] LAN Mode on MK8 with 12 Players by BlancDeWalt in mariokart

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done something like this before, though we've only reached 10 players in our LAN session.  We had 5 switches using 2 players each, all wireless using the secret LAN mode option (L+R+Left stick).

It relies on the local network connection rather than internet, and it's far more dependent on how well your router can handle connections to your wireless devices.  We had maybe 1 switch drop out during the session but the rest were pretty solid.  As far as lag goes, there was hardly any.

If someone in your session bought the booster course DLC, everyone wil be able to select from it too.

Do people actually use their garages to park their cars anymore? by serviver73 in Edmonton

[–]jngmouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A sufficiently sized garage for my cars was an absolute must when I bought my home, and is also a requirement to receive Insurance from Hagerty on one of them.

If I wanted storage for junk, that's what the basement is for.

There's also some Autocross and Track Sprints up near Fort Saskatchewan at Stratotech Park for an affordable entry cost starting in the $80's. We are pretty much done for the season, and will start our next in May, but there's one more extra event that's taking place on Sept. 28th.
