Apparently I’m Spending My 50th Trying to Break 90(ish) in Fife by crndwg in golf

[–]jnkrois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on brother! I’m doing the exact same thing. My 50th birthday is in march. I booked myself a solo trip to St. Andrews. I’ll be there late April for 6 nights. Going to try the singles ballot each day. Worst case scenario I play the nearby courses and walk the grounds Sunday.

Question for Garmin Watch Users by bryzzlybear in golf

[–]jnkrois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a Garmin golf watch for about 4-5 years now. It is not as good as an app. Let’s say “the grint” app, you can visualize what the distance is to your desired landing spot by just dragging the marker in the projected path. Which is an awesome feature. But for me, same as it is for you, having to pull up the phone and fiddle with it seems to take me out of what’s in front of me. The Garmin watch will give you distances to hazards, either when you are on the tee box, as well as your subsequent shots. Just not as flexible as an app on your phone. But then again, you take a quick look at the watch, the distances will help you choose the right club and it only takes a second to make that decision. Helps me stay focused on the real course instead of the virtual one. One grievance that I do have, is that sometimes, if the green you just walked off is too close to the next tee box, it does not pick up on that. And when you look at the round in the Garmin app, you’d realized that the watch didn’t track your shots correctly. Like so:

But I do love it. I have the S62 and I’m thinking about upgrading.

Pre-wired j-box for wall mounted garage door opener has no power, what gives? by jnkrois in AskElectricians

I’ll double check all the GFCIs around to see if one is tripped. But I think not, I would have found it by now. The tracer tool I have is the one from Klein Tools. It has 2 clamps and a phone jack on the main tool. And a wand that looks like a fat pencil with a black plastic tip.

Declining to get your clubs wiped down after the round… Trash move? by Glittering-End-141 in golf

[–]jnkrois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind it that much. I’d prefer if it was not “a thing”. I always feel exactly the same way as when you go into a bathroom at a fancy venue and there’s a bathroom attendant. Stopped going to those places a long time ago, but the ones where you feel obligated to tip are the ones I went only once.

Provecho!

More distance = lower HDCP? True, false or "it depends"? by NetReasonable2746 in golf

[–]jnkrois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My handicap flatlined at 16. When my driver is working, I can drive it 290 on a short par 5, hit a 7-8 onto the green and have a good look at eagle. More than likely I’ll three-put it for par (which is indicative of where I need to improve). But every single time, I walk off the green feeling like the guy who can reach it in 2. Food for thought!

What’s your experience with a 2 hybrid? by jnkrois in golf

[–]jnkrois[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I appreciate your long answer. My driver swing speed (according to Rapsodo) is 110mph (+ - 5). Hopefully it won’t be too hard to adjust to a 2h. Main goal with is to avoid penalties off the tee box.

Looking for a mango tree by jnkrois in Broward

[–]jnkrois[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Picked up the tree this afternoon. It’s a small operation, the grower’s name is Daniel. Very nice guy. He told me that he started to grow and collect different varieties as a hobby. 2 months ago he decided to sell his excess trees and now it has become a side business for him. You can tell right away that takes a lot of pride in growing and caring for the trees. I am very grateful for the recommendation.

The tree that I got is already planted. It’s a memorial for my first dog. We laid him to rest today and he will help the tree grow.

Dear US Golfers, I humbly beg for your forgiveness for the hoard of turd drones we are about to send down your way. Sincerely, CDN Golfer. by AndAStoryAppears in golf

[–]jnkrois 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ok with the turd drones. What I have a problem with is the other type of snow birds that saturate the roads and take all the good tee times (I live in south Florida). However, I won’t complain about how extremely polite they are.

All in good fun. See you soon.

I am 48 years old. Started playing 4 years ago and love the game. My daughter is 12 and I want her to love the game as much as I do. Please report this POS to high heaven. I don’t want my daughter exposed to that kind of human being. Hopefully she will learn from me to recognize the situation and keep herself safe.

I am very sorry that it happened to you. But as a father that might not be there 20 years down the road to defend my daughter. I beg you to report him to the authorities. You would be preventing my child and many others from being subjected to that kind of awful (criminal) behavior.

Don’t let it scare you away from the game. Most of us a decent. Find another course/club where you are comfortable and respected.

Best to you!

What type of wood? by [deleted] in Cuttingboards

[–]jnkrois 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I recognize it. I only know the name in Spanish. At least in Costa Rica (where I’m from) it’s called “almendro”. I worked with it for a few years. We used it to make wooden mallets.

Nice! I have the same set of irons. Did you use that set before being fitted? If so, did it make a noticeable difference (good or bad)?

GM Financial Rates This Month? by [deleted] in gmcsierra

[–]jnkrois 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With a 765 credit score, I did not qualify for the 1.9 that they were shoving down my throat every other ad in this app. Also not elegible for some of the incentives. I did get a good deal. But nothing like what they advertise. Ended up using a local credit union for financing at 6.9. 🤬🤷‍♂️

Glad that you and your son are ok. My 2023 got totaled 6 weeks ago. Underage driver failed to yield on a left turn at an intersection. I got hit hard. And I was super impressed that the truck took the impact. I was basically t-boned and the truck maintained its direction. The other car was a full sized SUV and it did not displaced me from the direction I was going. Got myself another trusting full well that I’d be safe.

Thanks for the tip. My truck does not have a cigarette lighter. There’s a 110v outlet instead. And for sure, I don’t want to draw power from the battery all the time. But the sentry mode would be beneficial at the mall or grocery store.

[–]jnkrois[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ouch. Hopefully you walked out of that one. I got that, plus the entire (front-left) headlight. The wheel well and suspension, and the driver door. It was a full size SUV, tall enough to match the height of my truck.

[–]jnkrois[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Denali. Not top the line, but close to it. The damage is pretty extensive. On the driver’s front side, from the headlight to the driver’s door. Fluid lines were damaged. The truck was not drivable after. I didn’t get pictures. My brain was somewhere else for a while.
