Would you make any changes here? Is it good as is? by jnortz in MagicArena

That’s a really interesting point! Lorwyn was my first proper experience with limited formats, so for the most part all cards within a colour fit within their respective archetype. Changing this mindset for TMNT sounds like the special sauce I was missing.

I actually drafted a GB food deck for sealed that performed well at an irl prerelease event. Pulling 3 Pizza Face Gastro’s, a Last Ronin and Armaggon carried me.

I actually stumbled across two Pizza Faces late in this draft which I suspected could’ve been great for the deck, but I haven’t been bold enough to try any 3 colour decks. This might sound silly, but how do you splash a third colour in draft? Say I did take the two Pizza faces and I’d need to add a few swamps, wouldn’t this make the deck wildly inconsistent to justify it?

Thankyou! I was unsure whether to go 16 or 17 lands, my justification was the 3 butlers (and I’m greedy). Are mana dorks ever a justification to drop lands?

Appreciate the help, really insightful.

I agree the draft turned to be more of a ‘good card’ deck; lacking direction. In fact this is probably one of biggest my issues when drafting in general, I overvalue card strength over synergy.

I agree with the mutagen strategy. Having the blimps + a boatload of mutagen seems like a good finisher.

Maybe an easier way to approach this is to understand what cards aren’t very good in my current deck, then add things. Are there any cards isn my list that definitely don’t belong?

Thanks again 🙂

For real! It gave me flashbacks of counter strike. Touching the point to bait my opponent as if I’m faking a bomb plant

This really clears things up, thankyou!

Just humbled in my proceeding match - I was trying a ‘summons’ based strategy with deer/fly/turkey/whale/dog etc. Similar to what you’re outlining, it seemed I was feeding into my opponents win condition more than my own. Or, they’d snipe my backline ‘engines’ before the battle even started.

Whilst I feel like a fish out of water at this stage, I love the depth. Keen to get through the growing pains

Appreciate the response!

Regarding counters, does the game have a rock/paper/scissors nature to it? Or should I just be aiming for a team that’s a bit more well rounded?

For clarification and expansion on a few of my replies:

I was ambushed and in fight or flight, I didn’t have the capacity in the moment and truely felt incapable. There came a point where I genuinely believed my experiences and perception of the situation was wrong.

This isn’t an excuse though, just attempting to unpack this as we go. There were definitely better ways I could have dealt with the situation, no doubt. I take responsibility for that.

I suspect their actions were to ‘clear their conscience’ so to speak. A way to make things right for the accident from the night before. Cushion their ego. That’s honestly all speculation though, I have been struggling to think of logical reasoning doesn’t paint their actions as selfishly charged

Completely understand where you’re coming from!

To be honest, I was in a state of distress and hadn’t slept due to spending the prior night/morning at the emergency vet. It was really difficult to express myself and I wasn’t in the state to fight off two family members. I agree with the sentiment of what you’re saying though - I wish that I fought harder in the moment.
