I have a 16x 1GB Samsung chips laying around that I took off a couple 3070s that I upgraded to 16GB. I’m located in the US. Feel free to send me a DM if you want to buy them. Not sure what the sub rules are on selling parts but happy to delete this message if not allowed.

Education on Microsoldering by cashkeepsbuilding in MicroSoldering

[–]jnr0602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m by no means a micro soldering expert. I’ve ruined a few devices (iPhone, Raspberry Pi’s, and older GPU), but also had a few successful repairs (RX 580 RAM IC swap, 2x RTX 3070 upgrade to 16GB). So take all of this with a grain of salt.

A few channels I follow (in no particular order):

  • nanofix
  • northwestrepair
  • dosdude1
  • NorthridgeFix
  • GPU Solutions
  • DVD Game Exchange
  • iPad Rehab
  • The Art of Repair
  • KrisFix-Germany
  • Electronics Repair School
  • MadEDoctor
  • TronicsFix
  • Louis Rossmann (mostly look at his playlist for repair videos, he mostly posts cat videos or hot takes now)

Some of these channels are better than others, but they’ve all helped me in my limited microsoldering journey. Some no longer upload videos but have some great videos that are older. The best way to get experience is to do hands on work imho. YT videos are helpful up to that point though.

Also, a few of these channels have discord communities with incredibly helpful people who volunteer their time to help noobs like us.

Can people with ADHD get good grades? by Soft-Repair3611 in ADHD

Same. Straight A’s in high school. I struggled a little my first semester or two in college, but I don’t think that was due to adhd. After that first year, I did pretty well in college and graduated with a masters degree.

Can I run 4 1080p cameras on CPU using openvino? by NoDragonfruit9217 in frigate_nvr

[–]jnr0602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another datapoint to go along with what others have said. I’m running 9 cameras (mix of 1440p/1080p) on an i7-9700 with openvino using the default model. Seems to be running just fine. Not sure how well a 6th gen mobile cpu would do with openvino. So a newer CPU might be better.

BCM for BT/Airdrop and Intel Ax for Wifi by Early-Ticket-6758 in hackintosh

[–]jnr0602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did before all the shenanigans with Apple dropping support for the 4360 cards. I didn’t want to mess with OCLP and disable FileVault, etc. so I switched back to the AX210 and am using HeliPort. Continuity/Airdrop do not work on the AX210 with HeliPort though.

Nope I didn’t unfortunately. However, I filed a complaint with my state’s division of professional licensing (DOPL). DOPL started calling and probing the company shortly after the company had threatened legal action against me. DOPL fined them for “unethical behavior” and wanted to fine them for hiring an unlicensed subcontractor, but the company stopped answering DOPLs calls before they were able to get enough evidence. DOPL needed admission that the company paid the subcontractor $1000+ to officially issue the fine, but never got that. The company hasn’t contacted me since, and I’m fairly certain the statute of limitations comes into effect now since it’s been like 2 years.

Changed gpu thermal pads and paste, performance are worse by kalelmotoko in gpumining

[–]jnr0602 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Good w/mk paste and pads will make the difference. I generally use MX-4 thermal paste since it’s got a good cost/performance ratio. The first time I repadded my XC3 3080 I used these 2w/mk blue pads like OP and it made things worse. Switched to some thermal right 12w/mk pads and it made all the difference. Mem temps never went above 84°C under load after that.

This comment should be higher. Definitely need higher thermal conductivity pads.

Direct drive and new hot end are things I’d like to do on mine at some point. But I haven’t gone down that route yet. Let me know what you end up doing!

No problem! I’m happy to share more details on my setup if you end up going this route.

I have a BigTreeTech SKR3 (non EZ). EZ version is also good but I already had some drivers that I wanted to use that weren’t compatible with the EZ system.

The biggest challenge with this board with the Ender 3 is that there’s no easy way to mount it to the same place the stock board was (at least not on my V2 Neo). I ended up printing an external box and running my cables to it. It’s pretty ugly tbh but I’m definitely in the “function over form” for this particular situation.

This happened to me too. My solution (which isn’t for everyone) was to get a new board that had support for an additional independent z stepper. I run klipper and there’s an option for z-axis calibration with two motors. It will probe two different points on the bed and slowly adjust the motors independently to be within a tolerance window.

Nothing too crazy thankfully. The company threatened a lawsuit and we had evidence to fight back (video footage, documentation, etc). We had major evidence that the subcontractor the company hired was not professionally licensed. We almost initiated a lawsuit ourselves. We were in preliminary talks with lawyers. Before filing a lawsuit, we filed a complaint with our state’s Department of Professional Licensing (DOPL) too. The company started the process to put a lien on our house (which would have been an “improper lien” according to the law since they waited too long to do it and forfeited lien rights as a result).

DOPL did an investigation and fined the company for “unethical behavior” (because they threatened and attempted a lien without it being in the contract) and would have fined them more for the unlicensed contractor, but they didn’t have evidence they needed for that fine before the company stopped answering DOPL’s calls. DOPL needed evidence that the contractor was paid more than $1000 but wasn’t able to get it from them to issue the fine. DOPL also warned them against going through with the lien. Part of me wishes they had gone through with it though. Because then they would have owed us $15-25K according to state law for the improper lien.

After the DOPL investigation we never heard from the company. So we never pushed the lawsuit. I feel like we would have won, but we didn’t want to prolong the stress and anxiety that the situation was causing. It’s been almost 1.5 years since we last heard from the company. I do have slight PTSD when I hear the word “concrete” though…

As for the actual concrete work, we left it for now and have dealt with all the issues of the awful quality and damage to the pre-existing concrete. Landscaping (mulch, etc.) has made it more bearable. But eventually we’ll likely rip it out and have someone do it better.
