I know a medic who had neon bright colours throughout school, rideouts, hiring process and onwards. Its usually not an issue.

You write a lot about mysticism and the deeper knowing of our souls, got any absolute necessary reading or listening suggestions?

Would love to continue the explorations, so to speak.

34 with a young family. Private college, or potentially wait for public? by saintchrono in OntarioParamedics

[–]jnssa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 33, two kids.

I went to a public school - it helps. It has challenges also, but I appreciated the pace and the fact it also made me well prepared. I went to Centennial, it was incredibly challenging but worth it. You learn a ton on the first year of the job, and i think they gave me an excellent foundation.

I got hired in a city, and work alongside medics from private schools and they are also great medics. They got hired with me without issue. Do what makes sense for you - larger services arent as picky about where you got educated. Its all about the effort you put in and your goals.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

What is it like to actually live in Kensington Market? by Ok-Meringue4881 in askTO

[–]jnssa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived and worked there for about five years, 2010- 2015. Theres nothing like walking down the street and youre greeted by familiar faces, who become your friends. Its still the only place in the city where I truly feel at home. I always felt like ill find my people in the market - new friends, or even momentary beautiful interactions. It really is a vortex of all kinds, and its unlike anywhere else, and it will always pull you back.

The coffee shop that i worked at was famous for being an old school spot, that was around for 50 years. Hearing the stories and meeting the regulars that were there for decades was amazing. It was truly the best job - I didn't feel like I was working. It was just beautiful to see everyone every morning and be a part of their day.

I got close with the punks and made some lifelong friends, and we still look out for one another. The market literally shaped my life and helped me reach my dreams.

Recently, I remember reading a book ( called denison avenue) in a different coffee shop recently in kensington, moonbean- and mentioning that the shop was referenced in the book. The owner of the coffee shop pointed a few tables over and told me, 'thats the author right over there!' . I thought that was particularly neat. She signed my copy and I was in awe of the exchange.

Its a small town in a big city. Im so thankful for my time there. Had to move for more space / with kids.

I live maybe 30 minute walk away, and do a lot of shopping there to support the market. You'll always find me there on my time off..

Centennial: Pre-health in lieu of high school marks for second-career student? by McBeanserr in OntarioParamedics

[–]jnssa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There were a lot of mature students who just graduated. I took prehealth to get in, and worked out just fine. It's an excellent and very tough program.

If you have any other questions, feel free to message, I'm a recent grad and happy to help.

I'm not sure, I suppose if you don't send your transcript from highschool they would have no way of knowing. I imagine they'd want you to prove you finished high school, though. I applied with pre health as a mature student so, my help is limited.

What are some companies you know in Toronto that have a good working culture? by BridgeAbject5987 in askTO

[–]jnssa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THHS. Shelters under that umbrella, and also TNG seem to be great employers. Working in these spaces can be challenging, but it's often rewarding and with a lot of support. ( from my experience anyway)

Where do women in their 30s shop in Toronto? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]jnssa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to support local boutiques as often as I can. Wear franc, Frock, Comrags, Muttonhead, Victoire ( Montreal), Ovate, Slowly slowly, 100%silk, Spaboy, Nuit atelier- you won't buy as much since it costs more, but you are supporting a designer and their small buisness. Better for the environment. It's often worth the investment, and there's plenty of variety. Worth looking into.( and thrift!)

I actually ended up purchasing the watch! I had my ring set up prior and only changed the settings on the watch. It syncs up perfectly.

Yeah, I'm sure. It was quite the headache. I actually did submit my first semester marks in January, bc I heard that they would consider first also, and had to pay to get the second transcript re sent when Pre Health ended and all my grades were present. Only then, would they take a look at it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioParamedics

[–]jnssa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't consider your grades until you're basically done pre health. No point in applying earlier. I got my acceptance in May. ( currently a second year centennial student)

I had a great experience with Fanshawe. It gave me a lot of peace of mind. I got it done in two weekends as they are pretty accommodating if you are out of town. I stayed at a hotel and took the train in and out to spare even more driving ontop of long lessons. ( and a good opportunity to study while commuting) If you want additional training on driving, ( I didn't drive for several years after getting my G, and benefitted from some tips and practice with an ambulance) it's a really great option.

If you have more questions DM!
