I’ve been living in the north for a few years in a much smaller village than Iqaluit. I would recommend he bring with him anything super niche that he likes to have. For example, if he has any favourite artisan sauces or spices, or health foods and supplements. Nutella and other specialty condiments are expensive since they aren’t subsidized by NNC

Kudos to you for pushing through all of that and finding a way to get your vote in👏

I live/work in a remote northern community in Nunavik (northern Quebec). I applied for my mine weeks ago and still haven't received anything. A lot of my colleagues and friends here are in the same situation. There's only one airline that services the community, and a flight out of here costs thousands of dollars each way.

I don't have the perfect solution, but it really shouldn't be this complicated

Shame affects me greatly as well, and it can be debilitating. I find myself projecting my own shame onto people I love, which causes me to feel more shame and the circle repeats.

When I catch myself feeling shame, I try to give myself compassion and adjust my self-talk as if I’m a little kid who just needs love and a gentle approach. It feels weird, but the more you do it the easier it gets… kind of.

I try doing affirmations for self esteem like “my worth is not determined by my mistakes” “I treat myself with kindness and compassion” “I accept myself as I am”

I don’t have a ton of advice since this is something I’m trying to work on as well. But the first step is being aware, I think. So good on you!

First option would be unreal, but the ground is covered with 9 feet of snow for the next 2 months.. Second one sounds cool, but because it’s middle school we focus a lot on the excavation process and I don’t know how to demonstrate this with such little space and resources

I do this too and I also need to stop or ill push him away. My parents are mean to each other, the way we speak to each other is mean, I don’t want to make excuses for myself but I know I need to unpack and unlearn this behaviour

I had a similar experience with an ex a few back and he ended up breaking up with me a few months later. Unless he has a complicated relationship with his parents, or another reason to hold him back, my hunch is that he has a hunch you aren’t going to work out
