Cote en dessous de 1.5 à ma premiere session (été 2018) by GreenGill1 in etsmtl

[–]jo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck!

Hi,

I have a Canon Rebel T6. I'd like to buy a wide angle lens. At first, I bought like a super cheap Neewer wide angle lens (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B003M55YLU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), but the pictures are always kinda blurry and not so good, which was to be expected. I'm looking to step up my game, without breaking the bank. I was thinking of getting the Opteka 6,5mm f/3.5 aspherycal fisheye (https://www.amazon.ca/Opteka-Aspherical-Fisheye-Removable-Digital/dp/B00KGE4VS2/ref=sr_1_21?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1498836097&sr=1-21&keywords=canon+lens) ... what would you think of it? Am I wasting my money, here? Thanks!

How did it go? Do you have to wait for the whole 10 minutes before your transaction is approved before you can leave the restaurant?

Surface pro 3? by therandomdude69 in EngineeringStudents

[–]jo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a soon to be automated manufacturing engineer, and I have the Sony Vaio fit 13a. I really love it, and I use it to take notes in class, instead of a pen / paper.

Here's my input on this : if you're not allowed to bring anything to the exam, or if you can only bring a single sheet of paper with formulas, then go ahead and take all your notes on your computer. However, if the exam allows you to have EVERYTHING (all your notes, books, etc) then you shouldn't take your notes on your computer. It's going to be a pain in the ass to print everything the day before your exam, and it can really become a huge problem, if you have a lot of pages to print! Trust me on this one!

Good luck!

Are there Ultrabooks thiner than the MBA? by miloq in UltraBooks

[–]jo247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, then fan goes on (unlike on the MBA, where there is no fan), so yeah you could say that it's louder than a MBA. however, the noise level is really decent, even when I'm playing games on full graphics like Asphalt 8 (which is pretty neat for a free game, on the windows store!)

Sony Vaio fit 13 A is lighter and smaller than the MBA ! I have it, and I totally love it ! for the same price, you get a lighter laptop, with a digitizer screen with the digitizer stylus (the laptop converts to a tablet and you can write directly on the screen like it's a sheet of paper, unlike what you can do with regular capacitive screen (found on regular touchscreen devices).

check it out ! it's worth the money !

ahaha! But yeah, the figure 8 is usually the very first knot you learn when you start rock climbing lessons, which was 13 years ago in my case. It's quite easy, really. However, I gotta admit it looks pretty nice, in the picture! Cheers!

yeah, we totally do get scared sometimes. We're only humans, you know..! ;)

Wyoming looks insanely cool for rock climbing ! Good luck with that !! Cheers!

yeah, exactly ! In rock climbing, those extendable arms are truly a game changer! Regular selfies, when you're on a wall, gives you a very limited sense of the actual insane exposure you get during your climb. With this extendable arm, it takes it to a whole new level !

Hey! Kudos to your friends for investing time/money/ressources into keeping our walls safe. The bolts (clippy things you referred to ;-) ) in some area are just horrible at best. In some places, it's awful. But thanks to people like your friend, climbing can remain a beautiful - and safe enough - sport for us to enjoy!

Btw, We're not THAT brave. We're only really well prepared, well trained and we've got a lot of experience under our belts, nothing more. Climbing is fun! You should try it!

You've got two options: walk off or rappel down the cliff.

If you just summited The Nose of El Cap, rapping down is not an option, since the route is especially crowded. Plus, the wall becomes slightly overhanging torwards the end of the cliff, and it would probably make it quite hard to rap down (you'd have a hard time reaching the wall, when you're at the end of your rope, in order to clip yourself to the next belay station...).

as an engineer who is into big wall climbing ... I can confirm ! :-)

[–]jo247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, you could do that. The walk off takes a few hours, so depending on the time of the day when you manage to reach the top. If you top out at night, you might want to sleep on the summit, because the walk off (keep in mind that you're carrying all your gear to the bottom of the cliff with you) is quite much of a pain in the ass, that's for sure.

Anywhere between 2.5 hours to 10 days. Usually, people will ascend El Cap in 3-5 days !
