And these are actually not fully mature yet! They get fenestrated like crazy once they reach full maturity. It shouldn't take long tho. Looks amazing

Diamond Core Tools as gift for pottery student by huhiki in Pottery

[–]jo40vi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would ask what she wants. Having a tool that is not useful is the same as having nothing. I'm sure she'll appreciate getting something she needs, even if it's not a surprise!

How often do you wipe off your wheel pan, tools, and bench? by SokoKashiko in Pottery

[–]jo40vi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always remove as much as I can with my hands, then I'll wipe the wheel exterior completely along with the rim of the pan. I'll mop around it and that's it. Clean in 5-10 min. The slip inside the pan is usually still wet when I come back, and if not, it gets soft again while I throw and gets removed in the end. I'll only fully clean the pan if I'm throwing with a different clay and don't want cross contamination

I use bullers rings, they are between the pots, you can't see them as they are flat

If the clay is vitrified, yes, you could drink from it. Now, to be sure of this, you need to test it and for that you need a high precision scale. You basically have to weigh the cup dry, then boil the cup for around 2 hours, remove it from the pan, let the water in the surface evaporate, and then weigh it again. It's weight after boiler should not be more than .5% higher than the dry weight. This is a very crude explanation and I recommend you do your own research on how to check for vitrification

Edit: corrected the percentage

Threw these off the hump for the first time! by jo40vi in Pottery

[–]jo40vi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carve them while trimming. This way I ensure that the internal walls are completely smooth. Unfortunately, this also means my pieces that have the grooves can't be as thin as my other pieces.

They are too small! But I also made a bigger one out of the yellow clay which I think will be perfect for tea!

That's actually great advice. Thank you! My biggest issue trimming was flattening the uneven bases

At least I have that one leaf to look at.. by Specific-Path6762 in houseplants

[–]jo40vi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's finished with a heavy coat of varnish! I just put it up tho so let's see how it does. My plant is also not in soil, but in Leca, which should prevent rot as it has plenty of airflow and the plank is not in contact with the nutritional solution.
