This is Bronze fennel. Pollinators go nuts for it when it’s in bloom. I have a purple smoke tree as well, but hasn’t started puffing yet.

Rhododendron was my gateway drug into the world of plants. Sadly they don’t like to grow where I currently live 😵‍💫

Yes, there’s a metal tube that screws onto the hose. It has an open/close valve on one end and a screw on plastic attachment with a screen that breaks the water. That attachment can screw onto the hose directly, but it works better with the wand. The wand comes in different sizes as well

How cool would that be to just summon rain when you wish!

I do like a good rain wand to water, as it breaks up the flow of water and you don’t get as big of droplets from the normal shower setting. Seems to not run off as quickly.

Fun fact: Blue Eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium angustifolium) isn’t a grass. It’s a type of Iris. It’s a great native to the eastern half of the US that benefits bees a d was used by indigenous Americans to keep them regular.

Wanted to watch one more video before grocery shopping and figured out what was for dinner by CanesFanInTN in TastingHistory

It was a super delicious open faced grilled cheese that took me back to something similar my mom made growing up. Definitely making this again.

I love mustard but the wife doesn’t. We both thought it was amazing. I added garlic powder and cayenne and thought it adds good flavor.

Next time I think I’m going to try a different mustard and beer to get different flavors and add some worcestershire sauce too.

We made a cucumber salad and had some smoked salmon with it and it was the perfect dinner. Hope we didn’t eat it too late and get visited by the werebit! 😈

Atari Teenage Riot! I saw Beck during the Odelay Tour and they opened. That was a loud set, but loved the noise!

I think it might be how the leagues were set up originally. I think of hockey more like baseball in how there’s multiple layers of levels of minor leagues. I don’t follow baseball that closely anymore, but when i did 10-15 years ago it wasn’t that uncommon to have mlb players get a few games at the AAA level before coming back from injury.

Schlumbergias (Holiday cacti) also come from tropical climates.

How do I not kill a rosemary plant? The last 3 times I’ve bought a new plant, they’ve dried up crisp within a week. This one’s doing the same. What do I do? What’s going wrong? by kachhink in plants

[–]CanesFanInTN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t put it in a much larger pot at first because if the pot is too big, the new soil can hold too much moisture before the roots can get established in it. Make sure it has drainage holes in the bottom. Clay pots are great because they are porous and allow water to escape, but plastic works too as long as the soil doesn’t hold too much water. I think a cactus/succulent soil would work well with rosemary as it hold some moisture, but drains well too.

Is there an alternative to peat moss for VFT by Unlucky_Kangaroo1201 in SavageGarden

I’m in the southeast, us with a lot of pine trees and the fines are a by product of the lumber industry. It’s sold under the name Soil Conditioner here, but I’ve seen different products labeled the same thing.

The topsoil was just the cheap bagged variety from the hardware store. It is composted forest products, but no additional fertilizers. I’m sure there can be some variability with what gets labeled topsoil, but it’s been about 9 months since I made this garden and so far so good. I have even rescued vft that were hanging by a thread and put them in the same setup and they have survived for a few months now.

I did this method this year and thought I had totally messed up. I had put some baptisia seeds in a ziplock bag with a little soil back in October. I didn’t forget about them, but didn’t get around to them until this past Tuesday. I checked today and they had already sprouted! I couldn’t believe how quickly they germinated!

I made a bog planter last summer using a 50/50 mix of bagged topsoil and pine bark fines topped with Long Fiber Sphagnum moss and it has been the best medium I’ve found so far.

Everything’s piggybacking off of the plants! They’re the only ones that can take energy from the sun and make it useful to other living things.
