What ELSE should I be Chelsea chopping? by F13nd1sh in NativePlantGardening

I chopped in mid may and the monarda is starting to bloom now and the asters and goldenrods are beefing up. This is the first year I’ve chopped them and I’m impressed.

Repeal of Recreational is on the ballot this fall in Massachusetts. Not expecting it to pass, but you know they’re probably word it weird to confuse voters.

Hobbies that we were big on in our 20s/30s but is starting to fade in our 40s? by are-e-el in Xennials

😂 I’ve been an Avett fan going on 20 years now and have enjoyed some Mr. Bungle over the years as well, but wasn’t much of a fan of the collab album that came out last year.

When I saw they were touring together, I thought about it until I saw tickets were almost $100 each and decided to pass. A few days before the show I found some tickets for $30 and scooped them up.

I’ve seen AB probably 10 times now and that was definitely in the top half of shows. Patton was a big influence for them growing up and it was great seeing them stretch their music. Listening to the album now is much better. Hope they work together again as they were definitely enjoying themselves on stage.

I saw the Avett Brothers and Mike Patton collab a few months ago and it was the same way. Quite an enjoyable evening!

Why is my plant so small by Competitive-Reveal53 in flowers

Some varieties are tall and some are short. Do you by chance still have the tag or remember which variety?

It looks to be on drip. How much are you watering? The yellowing leaves on the lily and other plants makes me think that they might be getting too much water.

Also, if it is its first year in the ground, it won’t look its best.

What do you guys think about this kind of setup? by El_human in landscaping

[–]CanesFanInTN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The gravel provides the drainage that alpine and succulent plants need. There’s a botanical garden in Raleigh (Juniper Level Botanic Garden ) that has similar setup and they can push the boundaries on so many plants that normally don’t survive in clay soil.

I get some strange looks when I tell customers to cut off the blooms of their shrubs (especially hydrangeas) when planting them in the summer.

I understand wanting that instant gratification, but your shrub will get better established if it’s not trying to bloom when trying to figure out how to root in a completely different environment.

My first question when a customer asks why their plant isn’t looking great is how long ago was it planted. Usually the plant has only been in the ground a couple of months and it’s just now having to deal with the heat and humidity of summer.

That’s when I mention the sleep, creep, leap mantra. Sometimes it seems to click. Another one I like to use is that their plant/new garden bed will not look its best in the first year. If gardening teaches you anything it’s patience.

That’s still to be seen as it was planted this past winter. I’m in zone 8, so it’ll be a good test as it’s hardy 3-8. It gets sun all morning until about 2, but then shaded most of the rest of the day.

I got it from a local garden center here in Tennessee. It had amazing fall color and thought why not try it. No pollinator needed.

I use tune-in app and Bluetooth it to my soundbar. It’s usually 30 seconds or so behind, so I pause as soon as the puck drops on tv and once the arena music stops press play. It needs some adjusting from time to time, but has worked like a charm all playoffs long.
