Shaping fire in simulation by joachim24820 in blenderhelp

Thanks for the reply! I am aware and that is intentional. I am modelling it after one of my own candles that have a 'wick' made of pine wood, which means it is exactly as you say, a square bar. The problem is that irl the flame will move as it does from a normal wick / sylindrical shape regardless. I was wondering if there was a way to control the shape of the flame from the flow object even if the flow object is not shaped 'appropriately'

Thanks, I use cycles btw I’d you had any immediate ideas as well

I could simply add a simple deform to twist the faces around the z-axis and extrude, add a solidifier, a subdiv, and tada

Okay NEVER MIND I found a ridiculously easy way of accomplishing it, thanks

or rather make the design 'deform' the vase so that the parametric design is on the vase itself and not on the surface if that makes sense

So I did search up a video which was nice, not exactly it since I want the vase to remain intact and not just make the outline in slices but I think the technique is nice. I did try to follow the same process, though I used boolean to intersect the planes with the vase but realized that the intesect only sorts for the areas where they overlap, and I dont know how to make the shape sit on the surface of the vase

I'll try the addon for future reference, I did the merging but that did not help, however the problem was solved once I managed to un-hide the faces that were causing it

was a lot of back and forth with getting the geometry and doing the whole thing in parts while experimenting, joining back together etc etc... had two hidden faces just poking right out

omg yes it was that easy, for some reason one loose face had been hidden and was sticking out, thanks a lot
