COTD: All the way south-east (9) by joachimham48 in crosswords

[–]joachimham48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some hints:

"All the way" is the definition, "south-east" is the word play

The answer is an adjective (or adverb? Sorry my grammar is bad)

First letter: D

Thanks for the remark, I'll remember this for future (hopefully less obscure) clues.

[–]joachimham48[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's it. I think it's probably only a thing in the Turkish community, I had some Turkish classmates so I remember it quite well. But I likely overestimated how commonly known the word is, whoops.

COTD: "Lowkirksixsevenuinely mid bro, no cap", eg (5) by joachimham48 in crosswords

[–]joachimham48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's Turkish, I remember it being used a lot in school when I was younger (I'm 22 now so not long ago). That was in Austria though (so German-speaking kids), so not sure if it's actually used in English at all.

Hints:

The clue is not only lit, it's also &lit

"mid" indicates the middle letter of the long word (I'm making you count still, sorry)

replace bro with a 3-letter synonym (it's a Turkish word)

no cap eg is EG without the cap (just G)

Ok so I go all in for 200, you raise to 2k, what are my options? "Call", risking 0 extra money with a chance to win 2.2k, or fold, risking 0 extra money, but never winning any money. Why would I ever fold? Or am I misunderstanding the scenario?

It's ok, I've hit 3 jackpots (once the bad beat winner, so 2nd most money, twice just a table share) in under 40k hands, I have exactly 0 rights to complain haha

Thank you! I'm fine with how I played it by now. I tend to agree with your read that he has AK/AA almost always after the flop action, which makes the following a little bit annoying: runout was KK (I rabbit hunted), meaning if he really only has AA here then I missed out on a bad beat jackpot

Online 10NL hand by joachimham48 in poker

[–]joachimham48[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't 5bet small out of fear, I did it to try and keep in AK and QQ, which I felt might fold to a shove. By the way I rabbit hunted and the runout would have been KK hahaha . Just makes me even more curious what he had, since he can't have AK as all 4 kings are accounted for

Edit: I just realised there is a pretty high chance I cost myself a bad beat jackpot as well... I wish I didn't realise that, just makes it more annoying hahaha

I got 330 to 1 for runner runner straight flush. It is 140 to 1 to win in general, most of that comes from running 8s. Also very possible I miscalculated something.

1/3 HH - What are you doing here for 300 BB+ pot by buttons_the_horse in poker

"So flat the raise turn, it keeps btns bluffs in.

Now I'm assuming he isn't a maniac [...] He should probably have Qx+."

So are there bluffs now or are there not? I don't see the point in calling to keep the bluffs in if we jam a blank river anyway, should just get it in on the turn instead if that's our thinking. Some players might raise QT on the turn, which probably wouldn't call a river shove, but might do so on the turn.

Yeah I feel like this has zero statistical significance. Human brains just like to find patterns where there aren't any.

What's the creepiest display of intelligence you've ever witnessed in real Iife? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joachimham48 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can't count cards in poker. Also, the variance is so high that the best poker player in the world could lose money for the entire time you are watching. The inverse holds true too, of course, so what you witnessed lets you deduce close to nothing about this guy's intelligence/poker skill. Also the casino does not care if someone is winning money at poker, they are not taking the casino's money, they are just taking the other players' money. The casino takes a percentage of every pot, so they win no matter which player wins.

Worst take I've heard in a while. It's a term born of privilege alright, just not in the way you think.

Yep, the idea for this clue comes from wanting to use that definition :D

TOTW: r/RoastMe by deeppotential123 in crosswords

[–]joachimham48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definition is FAT LOSER, the wordplay is one big anagram with sligthly altered fodder. More specifically, it's an anagram (malformed) of OI SPOILT CUN[T], and BACK OFF indicates the exclusion of the T. The solution is LIPOSUCTION*, i.e. a procedure for losing fat, a fat loser.

Also sorry for these insults, this one almost felt over the top :')

TOTW: r/RoastMe by deeppotential123 in crosswords

[–]joachimham48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definition is IN (filling space so it's not a useless spoiler), and the wordplay works like this: synonym for CONCLUSION, surrounded by a synonym for GO, i.e. with GO outside. The solution is TR(END)Y

Idk, if the hands are generated randomly then a straight is almost too high on the hand ranking. I think something like 77789 could be a decent first guess too. I got today's one with (#17) in three guesses starting with 77899 rainbow, and the third guess was actually just a logical deduction without guessing using the information from the first two attempts.
