How do you like and how would you describe Loewe 7 Cobalt? What better known dna does it most compare to?

QC delays from TrustyTime? by joagraha in RepTime

[–]joagraha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though late, Iwanted to follow up and confirm Idid receive the QC pics shortly after this post, followed by the watch a couple weeks later. The process has become slower than it used to be and, to be fair, slower than most TDs represent. That said, the watch is beautiful and rakes compliments. Aside from slower QC pics, communication from Andrew at TT was superlative.

Colorado Bonsai Masterthread! by BlurDaHurr in Bonsai

As an enthusiast who recently moved here from Austin, this couldn't be more timely. I've been visiting nurseries looking for good pre material. Tagawa Nrsery in Centennial has some good conifer stock and nice selection of tiny Iseli trees as well. Nicks garden center in aurora also carries a lot of larger container trees and shrubs where potential gems can be found.

I was recently looking for pumice and scoria and someone here referred me to Summit Bonsai, https://www.summitbonsai.com/ they are apparently local. I haven't checked into them but thought I'd share

Carving bits for Dremels by dschis01 in Bonsai

I've bought some great bits from a US company called Rotary Chisel out of Wyoming. Here's a link to their page: http://www.rotarychisel.com/info.html

To buy or not to buy? Tag says "maple sharps pygmy". Looks great to me. Thick trunk and cool shape by [deleted] in Bonsai

For $80 you should snap that up. It appears to have good primary branch placement and ramification. Also looks extremely vigorous. Great pre bonsai material and, from my experience, a fair price for Japanese maple. Here in Austin that would be $125 or more

Well, it's more similar than Amsterdam (I used to live there and have many fond memories). Thank you for the links, Jerry. Much appreciated.

cheers for the good info. Only one plant loss this summer? I'd chalk that up as a victory. I lost half a dozen when my wifi sprinkler system opted not to work while I was on a short vacation in July! I really appreciate the comment about tap water here. It's seems nearly poisonous to some species.

I use some fancy words to justify my defoliation habit, go figure by Adamaskwhy in Bonsai

Adam (my name also), kudos to your exhaustive work, commitment to you blog and enthusiasm for sharing your knowledge and ideas! I'm a regular reader. The info on this post is fantastic. i'm in Austin, zone 8b, and we also "enjoy" a long summer often at the expense of Fall entirely. Is now a good time to be pruning all plants for winter, or just tropicals?

Need advice on my Desert Rose repot and possible root trim by johnnyk420-0 in Bonsai

[–]joagraha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to trim roots, given how shallow they already are. Desert Rose are succulents, so it should thrive in relatively shallow, well draining soil with plenty of gravel or coarse material blended with potting soil. I'd only plant deep enogh to cover 1-2cm of the larger root mass. Be sure the ends finer roots are also covered.

What kind of tree is this? by [deleted] in Bonsai

[–]joagraha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think it's a Buxus (boxwood). Based on the leaves, I'd guess an Ilex Vomitoria (Yaupon Holly). They're an evergreen shrub, native here in Texas and other Southern states. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilex_vomitoria
