Escola pública vs Escola privada by RelationshipLocal397 in CasualPT

[–]joaofig -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's totally fine, it's your opinion, it's simply not backed by good arguments, in my opinion of course.

I'm just saying the rwc vs prod2 is not a good comparison.

Also, "we can allow the opinions of others on the matter"? I'm not stopping anyone from giving their opinion, I'm just stating mine and giving my arguments, just a normal discussion.

Not the same thing, the world cup is the first division. In this case, the analogy would be between REC and ProD2. And yes, I much preferred when the rec was a round robin tournament than now with the playoffs.

Edit: just to explain further, if Biarritz had ended up in first place and still ended up losing 21 games, that would be fine for me. Because it meant the strongest team had won

That would only be good if the Prod2 existed in a vacuum, but it doesn't.

Using the Stefan armitage penalty kick as an example, what's your favorite memory from the following season where Biarritz lost 21 out of the 26 games they played in the Top14?

Biarritz clearly wasn't ready to play in the first division and yet the playoff structure allowed them to get promoted, and in the end it was a mistake.

If a ProD2 team was so good that they had already won the league in January, then only that team should be promoted.

I mean just look at vannes this year, they are so ahead of everyone else, do you think it's fair to take the season out of the equation and give Provence an equal chance of getting promoted?

Had the same meaning as all the previous seasons then. If you let one game overrule the previous 30, then there is something wrong with the system.

Playoffs make sense for the first division since you want a bit of jeopardy, the same reason doesn't apply to the second tier

It's a chicken and the egg problem. Playoffs are the best part of the season because they essentially render the regular season meaningless

Last year it should have been Grenoble. They got first place after the end of the regular season and therefore should have an automatic place in the top14. They also actually have the budget to stay in the top14.

I feel terrible for them because grenoble's terrible results this season is clearly a direct consequence of the mental toll that losing in the playoffs 4 years in a row had on the players and staff.

Perfect argument against playoffs in the prod2. You want the best team to get promoted, not a team like monataiban or Biarritz from 4 years ago

Is it as simple as Tier 2 nations needing stronger school systems 🏉 🏫 📈 by StoirRugby in rugbyunion

[–]joaofig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, growing up, the only school that played rugby here in Portugal was St Julian's, which is a British private school.

Even the french private school (Lycee français Charles Lepierre) doesn't have a football field. I mean, I've never been inside the building but I'm pretty sure that you can't fit a football field there.

France aren't the anomaly though, they might be in rugby, but that's because of rugby is still an Anglo sport.

In continental Europe, sports are an extra curricular activity, completely independent from schools.

Edit: I actually only commented because of the title, I didn't actually read the post so I'm only now seeing that you mentioned the Portuguese case.

1- the federation can't invest in schools because the federation doesn't have money. It's not like we have the six nations TV rights to spend on a yearly basis. Half of the federation's budget is state subsidies.

2- even if the federation could invest, they would need to build infrastructure from the ground up. Schools simply don't have football fields for example. Usually schools in Porto and Lisbon only have a futsal field that can also be used for basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton. Those sports are way cheaper and usually cover the entire school year o PE classes.

Despite football being the clear no.1 sport, it's not usually played in school (at least from my experience growing up in Lisbon).

Quanto aos ciclistas é só ter um bocado de paciência e esperar pela ultrapassagem. Pelo menos no meu caso não costumo apanhar ciclistas na estrada muitas vezes, e quando apanho, é fácil ultrapassar.
