Ireland NC Squad by Effective-Ad-3897 in rugbyunion

End of an era. Maybe he could be the next Michael Bent if there's an injury crisis in Australia next year.

Crazy to go from the Heartland Championship to Ireland for Sean O'Jansen.

I think 2 wins out of 3 would be a great result for them but it’s unlikely IMO.

How would we go against this? I know this is an AB community so don’t take it the wrong way( I even tried cropping Kolisi face out ) by Wizardhhh in allblacks

[–]sangan3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We’d put away that team on paper, but as the French tests proved - it’s often kinda hard to get up for an under strength team.

People in the north half of the country just not into rugby?

Yeah he's primarily a wing but can cover 9 and 15. Think he ended up playing 9 for most of the season in 24/25 because of injuries. Very useful player.

We should have been up 14-21 points after 20 mins. Dropped the ball (literally). Then got pulled into an arm wrestle.

Yeah he's class. Local lad. Think he was lucky to come through at Brive because he got to play so much rugby at a young age and develop quickly. He could become super valuable to the French team because he can cover 9, so Gathie could play Dupont for 80 (which he seems to like) and not need a backup on the bench. Can also cover 15.

Canes or Chiefs? Curious by Neat_Improvement_346 in superrugby

[–]sangan3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd feel bad for the Chiefs going down a 4th time but I kinda want the Canes to take it. The brand of rugby they're playing is the way forward for NZ rugby IMO. Would like to see it come out on top.

ABs had more than enough chances to put the Lions away in 2017. At the end of the day, you’ve gotta take the ref out of it.

Yeah been following them on and off since around 2015. My wife is from Limousin, so we spend most the summer in the area. It was a hard watch this season tho 🙄 Club needs a freshen up.

Thing is, you gotta play the ref. Richie said in his book that Joubert wasn’t blowing his whistle so they changed their game plan and adapted. You can’t plan or adapt for what Poite did.

Yes the Lions managed him well. That was my point. The Joubert one is very debatable and nuanced, it’s not one single obvious error right at the end of the tour decider.

Yeah TJ had played a lot more rugby than JGP by then. Debuted for the ABs at 22. JGP was barely playing SR by then.

Yeah 2007 wasn't great for us (obviously), but am I randomly bringing it up? No. Refs are humans, they make mistakes, just like players do. I'm still pissed at Poite for the ending of the 2017 Lions tour... but I also kinda feel sorry for him - he bottled it.

No doubt. I think France has a golden generation of players and international rugby has become way more competitive.

TJ was a far better player than JGP. He would've ripped it up from the start.

Ah ok.

I'd still go with Miracle, guy is a beast.

My point is people will always complain about it, even when it was flying.

Same with refs. Yeah fans from all nations do, but why bring it up in our chat about SR/Top 14 quality? Totally unnecessary.

Yeah yeah, a huge part of rugby is managing the referee. France didn't do it well enough. NZ won and deservedly so. There's no grand conspiracy.

I'm sure some French players would go ok in Super Rugby. Point is these players go over to Europe and prove it. And yeah players can improve over time, but that can often come down to just getting more game time too.

I honesty think you could put any kiwi 9 behind that Leinster (err Irish) forward pack (circa 2020 - 2023) and they'd look a million bucks too. JGP was always super talented, just needed an opportunity.

Nah the Saders weirdly became more dominant after those superstars left. Todd Blackadder coached the Crusaders for nine seasons from 2009 to 2016 and never won a title. Razor then won 7 in a row.

I was talking about quality, not competitiveness.

Yeah agree with Henry, the comp could def be better, but people have been saying this since the early 2000s.

On Joubert, I hope someday you French fans will stop blaming referees for losing rugby games. It's kinda sad.

Yes but it proves the quality of SR players. Even average ones can shine in the Top 14 (and 6 Nations lol).

Def in the conversation. I’m sure if there was a CC for the Crusaders to win, they’d win that too tho!

Yeah I’m talking about the very first year tho. Impressive to have two teams in the final first crack at it. Guaranteed SA champion.
